I find the approaches to cross wiki vandalism & the like quite strange really. I am happy to "assume good faith" but when an IP (or a named user) has a record that is not constructive elsewhere I see no reason to wait for bad behaviour and then clean up. The ability to deal with such issues is something I would envy you having as a steward (there are other issues I do not envy you for having to deal with). The one right I would like would be to be able to block open proxies across wikis - it would be so much more productive. Blacklist

I meant to say yesterday but my thanks for your input into the blacklist page. Nick excepted it has felt a little lonely in there mostly (I think A. B. will be back soon). To have someone else's view is so helpful. (and teamwork to me is so important too).

If you have the time could you look at Talk:Spam_blacklist#gportal.hu which I do not know what to do about? Equally I am concerned about Talk:Spam_blacklist#pwinsider.com as well. This was not logged at all so it is hard to see why it should be left on the list (though I do not see the site as that useful and I do not like sites where a further six other sites all wanting scripting access).

I have doubts that you will ever be an "ordinary" bird :) As to learning regex, I picked it up in part through frustration because it was not getting done and via Nick who was very helpful. The en wp black & white lists now look much better too. Rename

Thanks for the pointer. As a more experienced 'crat than me can you let me have your views? I see Max & .anaconda "recreate" the old user name and then indef block it (which I have done too). I take it that this is "best practice"? On Commons we have just had an RfA from someone whose old name was "stolen" by a vandal - the process I have used would prevent that I guess. Thanks for that - I think I will do that anyway. It would be better to remove a block in the future than have an "impostor" vandal I think. A remarkable Wikimedian

I have come across some good people while roaming Foundation wikis (& there are many I have not yet got to!). However I have never come across anyone quite like you. Consistently fast, efficient and helpful together with being genuinely nice - that I have not come across before. I do not "do" barnstars and the like (if I did you would get a whole bunch!). However I have found something that provides beauty, warmth & light which I hope will be with you in the "dawn" of new responsibilities across the foundation. Checkuser at ca.wiki

Hi Spacebirdy. I am an administrator at the Catalan Wikipedia. A few days ago you checked the IPs of several accounts that were accused of sock puppetry.[7]. You mentioned that some accounts seem to be related in that they had similar IP and software profiles.

This is the first problem with [purported] sock puppetry that we have at our Wikipedia, and several users want us administrators to take more definitive actions, and we would like to know how conclusive is the evidence. Could you please explain what you mean by "similar IP and software profiles"? I assume you mean that they are both from the same service provider (probably sharing the first two numbers if they are a Class B subnetting, or perhaps a Class C?). Is that correct?

Thanks for your response. I know there are both legal and technical limitations to the information that you can give me. Unfortunately, we might have to close the case (to the dismay of the affected party) due to lack of enough information, or interpret whatever information we can obtain. If I interpreted your response correctly, by "same" you mean that all accounts belong to the same internet service provider (sharing the subnet as well, the third number), even if the IPs are dynamic. You actually answered my question =) I didn't want the IPs or the names of the ISP themselves. I just didn't know if "similar" was different from "same", and Iwanted to be sure that I was interpreting the results correctly.
