Relicensing and digitization of books on Santal and indigenous people from authors around Bolpur

Proposed activities

This is a pilot project to initiate a re-licensing and digitization activity in collaboration with Ghosaldanga Bishnubati Adibasi Trust with whom the user group is already having a partnership around documenting Santal culture. It has been proposed to the trust that the user group would help setup a digitization center at the trust library and train one individual from the trust to operate a CZur 18 Pro Scanner. There will be another individual who will have to travel in the neighboring regions to different authors who lives in the nearby regions, convince them to re-license their books under CC-BY-SA 4.0 license so that those books can be uploaded for Wikisource. The proposal has been placed to the trust and they have verbally agreed to to it

Expected impact

This project will

• Strengthen working relationship with the partner Ghosaldanga Bishnubati Adibasi Trust
• Bring under-represented contemporary textual contents related to indigenous culture to Wikisource.
• Setup of a digitization center at the trust which can be utlized in the future, if this pilot is successful.

Estimated budget

• CZur 18 Pro Scanner procurememt = INR 45,000/-

Photo and Video Documentation Microscopy of Fresh Water Microorganism

Proposed activities

Collect, photograph and upload high resolution images and videos of fresh water microorganisms(unicellular and multicellular) which may be animal or plant from waterbodies in and around the State of West Bengal. Predominantly from Southern West Bengal.

Expected impact

Wikimedia Commons has an absence of high resolution images and photographs of most microorganisms that exist in and around us, by uploading a minimum of 500 High Resolution Photos and Videos combined, I intend to make the above more available for people/organizations/institutions in the field of teaching and awareness about the world of microorganisms, a world that is almost invisible to the naked eye.

Estimated budget

The total estimate for the project to be a success is Rs.251500/-. The following are the estimated cost break-up of acquiring the setup for making this project successful.

• Magnus MX21i-Tr Freedom Trinocular Microscope LED with battery back-up Rs.80000/-.
• Sony Alpha a6700 Camera Body Rs.115000/-.
• SanDisk Extreme PRO 256GB V60 UHS-II SD Card Rs.8000/-.

• An Illustrated guide to the Freshwater Protozoa Book including Import duty Rs. 11000/-.
• 2 Part Adapter for connecting the Camera to the Microscope Rs. 8000/-.
• Accessories for microscopy such as Slides, Coverslips, Droppers, Petri dish, Beakers, Filters, Chemicals Rs. 12000/-.
• Any Miscellaneous expenses Rs. 10000/-

Proposed Budget For The Year July 2025 to June 2026 conducting Workshop and Follow up.

Proposed activities

1) We want to conduct 2 to 3 nos. of Workshops on Bengali Wkisource
2) we want to organise follow up sessions quarterly i.e 4 nos./year.

Expected impact

1) Intend to increase number of active wikimedians so that more books can be proofread and eventually more books come to our repository.
2) To reach our goal of serving our society by restoring the rare books, literatures etc. in digital form, so that our future generation can get information properly.
3) last but not the least point to mention that try to involve more no. of people to work for this vast and noble job.

Relicensing and digitization of books on biodiversity and forests from authors around Kolkata

Proposed activities

The initiating a re-licensing and digitization initiative in collaboration with Forest Departments to document biodiversity will be a significant step towards preserving valuable knowledge like information on forest ecosystems, conservation efforts, and species diversity is maintained for future generations and made accessible to a broader audience.

Expected impact

This inisiative will help to maintain a Long-Term Data Storage of research, field reports, species records, and conservation efforts—remains preserved in a dizital format and also by creating a digital repository, information on biodiversity becomes accessible worldwide.

Digitization cost (INR 2/- per page) & travel cost for person responsible for relicensing - (estimated INR 50,000/- for the entire year)

Federation hall library for rare book digitization in Kolkata

Proposed activities

This is a project to start rare book digitization activities, the user group has already had a meeting with them. It has been proposed to the library that the user group will set up a digitization center in the library and operate the scanners by paid volunteers and they have agreed to it.

Expected impact

Federation Hall will further strengthen our working relationship with the library and upload rare books on Wikisource.

A digitization center will be set up in the library which can be used in future.
