Co Media Lab and Design Beku invite you to populate Wikipedia with photos of women. Join the #VisibleWikiWomen Bangalore Editathon on 30th March 2019!
Why?
editIn March 8th 2019, the second edition of #VisibleWikiWomen campaign was launched, aiming to add openly licensed photographs and illustrations of women that are missing of Wikipedia. We estimate that less than 20% of Wikipedia articles of important women have pictures. When women’s faces are missing from Wikipedia, that invisibility spreads. Half a billion people read Wikipedia every month, and it is the 5th most visited website in the world, so gaps in Wikipedia have a big impact on the broader internet. Women’s knowledge and contributions to the world are invisible in so many ways. Together, we can address this and make women more visible online!

Activities
editThere are several actions that participants can take to increase women's visibility on Wikimedia projects. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Upload images of notable women and their work to Wikimedia Commons under the VisibleWikiWomen_2019 Category. Here is an Upload Wizard to help you :)
- Add images of women to existing Wikipedia articles.
- Write and translate articles.
- Improve descriptions and categories for the women's images already gathered on Wikimedia Commons.
All levels of Wikipedia experience welcome (including absolute beginners) -- all you need is your laptop! (You can use your mobile phone too, but it's less convenient).
Work lists
editWe made Wikidata queries to have some lists of women from India and Karnataka that hasn't images in their biographies yet. Take a look on this spreadsheet.
