WikiCite 2016/Proposals/Citing and annotating maps and images
Proposal
editI would like to propose a discussion of how we can improve the handling of images and maps as sources.
Background
editIt is usually easy to find a citation with text-search or the page that is given in the citation. Images (for example a plate of 100 specimen drawings) and especially maps can be very large and finding for example the source for a village name on a map, could require complex image searches. I would like to discuss the idea and get the ball rolling on how this could be handled. For example annotating a map and saving the (x|y) coordinates and including that information in the citation. Clicking on the situation would ideally highlight the place on the image where the original information is displayed.
Aim
editIdeally we can gather some ideas or publish a first concept.
Skills needed
edit- Understanding of basic spatial data
Phabricator task
