Title:  WikiCite & gender diversity visibility

Abstract:  

WikiProject Women in Red was founded In July 2015, during Wikimania Mexico City. It focuses on creating new articles on women’s biographies, women’s works, and women’s issues, broadly construed. As of October 2018, editors on English Wikipedia have created almost 88,000 articles, and have increased the percentage of women's biographies from approximately 15% to 17.87%. We are an online and an in-person community, who edits on English, as well as Albanian, Catalan, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Norwegian, Persian, Serbian, Spanish, Tamil, Thai, and Ukrainian Wikipedias. We have incorporated Commons and Wikidata in our work. What’s next? Some of us have formed a new Affiliate, Gender Diversity Visibility Community User Group, which seeks to (a) develop an e-lending library, (b) optimize access to sources (increase their availability), and make our efforts more visible (think: e-museum). I'm looking forward to making connections and learning how Wikicite might be useful to gender diversity work.

Bio:

Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight is a Visiting Scholar at Northeastern University (Boston, Massachusetts), Women Writers Project. She serves as vice-president of Wikimedia District of Columbia, secretary of AffCom, and sits on the board of advisors of Women in Journalism. A prolific Wikipedia editor, Rosie has created almost 5,000 new articles. She is the founder of WikiProject Women Writers, and the co-founder of Women in Red and Women in Green.
