Contest log Edit
8 March: The Challenge is officially opened! We – the organizers – wish you the best of luck! You may now start! Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 23:24, 7 March 2020 (UTC) 9 March: Wow, what a start! Only one day into the challenge, and already, 37 participants have signed up! Participants have actively worked to improve the visibility of women in Tuvan, Bikol, Ukrainian and Central Kurdish, just to name a few languages. The first articles among the bonus articles have also been created: Nux has made sure that Polish readers can learn about Naziha al-Dulaimi, and Armineaghayan about Miriam Rodriques Martinez in Armenian. Keep up the good work! Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 09:12, 9 March 2020 (UTC) 11 March: The morning of the third day of the challenge, and we're already over 50 participants! M-Mustapha, Kushared and Filipinayzd are currently in the lead, but many others are working hard and we still have four weeks to go! Keep on the good work! One point of clarification: All points are cumulative, except the bonus points. So any other point is doubled if you improve one of the bonus point articles! By the way: why not ask a (wiki)-friend to join? The more the merrier :) Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 09:39, 11 March 2020 (UTC) 12 March: Looking at day four and 54 strong contestants have signed up for the challenge! Thanks to all of you, we have articles edited in the following languages: Bikol, Cebuano, Tagalog, Waray, Ilokano, Kapampangan, Pangasinan, English, Hausa, Ukrainian, Central Kurdish, Tyvan, Polish, Malayalam, French, Russian, Português, Arabic, Santali, Greek, Armenian, Deutsch and Bahasa Melayu. How cool is that!? And do you know anyone speaking another language? Please invite them to edit so we can update this list! Josefine Hellroth Larsson (WMSE) (talk) 14:58, 12 March 2020 (UTC) 13 March: It's Friyay! What better way to celebrate this than to create some items on women? I hope you have set aside time this weekend to catch up on the podium three right now. At the very top Filipinayzd who is new at that position. Runner up Kushared and on third place M-Mustapha! Who will pick up the gauntlet? Well see, come Monday! Josefine Hellroth Larsson (WMSE) (talk) 14:46, 13 March 2020 (UTC) 16 March: New week, new possibilities! Have you taken some time to read the articles someone else has created? I just learnt about the destiny of Dalal Khario through the post contributed by Kushared, about Liubov Ilyushechkina through the work of DariaPolonia and about Anita Killi by ShiminUfesoj. Thank you! Josefine Hellroth Larsson (WMSE) (talk) 14:03, 20 March 2020 (UTC) 20 March: Today, we welcome our latest challenge participants, براء and Kokodyl, of which the latter has already contributed with translations of two featured articles. During these final few hours, I hope you will all enter all of your statistics so that we can see all of the amazing impact you've made during the challenge. Tomorrow, we will close the challenge and share some of the statistics of what we have achieved. The winner will be announced next week, when we have had time to make all of the conclusions. Good luck, you have until midnight! Josefine Hellroth Larsson (WMSE) (talk) 14:34, 8 April 2020 (UTC) 9 April: Hi all! We are passed 8 April, and the Challenge is officially closed. Thank you all for your work, impressive in terms of both quality and quantity. We will spend some days going through the articles and poins and analyzing the outcome. We expect to announce the winner mid-week next week. We have noted that several users have systematically translated articles very heavy on tables, at some points without translating the content in the tables. We believe that this can potentially contradict the final rule saying: "Please note that the aim is to improve Wikipedia with high quality articles, so any content of low quality that has been added will lose points." This will be a part of our analysis, and we will come back with an answer as to how we handle these articles. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 11:11, 9 April 2020 (UTC) 14 April: The organizers of WikiGap Challenge have gone through some of the top participants' results. In some cases, the tables are not translated but contain English wording. In other cases, the entire article is a table. While it may be of educational value in some cases, we find the practice to be in violation of the following rule: "Please note that the aim is to improve Wikipedia with high quality articles, so any content of low quality that has been added will lose points." The organizers will go through the articles of the top scorers, and analyze the content. In cases where articles only consist of tables that are left untranslated, all points will be deducted from the score. In cases where tables are of low educational value, only the prose text will be counted. This will require some extra work for the organizing team, and we ask all participants to have patience, before we announce the final results. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 11:57, 14 April 2020 (UTC) 12 May: The winners have been announced! Check the results page! Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 07:09, 12 May 2020 (UTC) |
