Event Overview:

Lookman Sunday Ibrahim (Ibrahim Achiri) and Ziblim Abdul Rahim( Knowledge and philosophy), leaders of Tamale Wiki Hub, hereby write on behalf of the Hub to inform you about our plans to organize a local event in Tamale to coincide with WikiIndaba 2024, the regional conference for African Wikimedians. We are reaching out to request funding support of $150 to help us make this event a success. The Tamale Wiki Hub is planning to host a one-day event that will bring together various Wikimedians from the region. The event will feature presentations and dialogues on key topics related to Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia, other wikis, open-source software, free knowledge, and free content. We will also explore how these projects impact the African continent and discuss strategies for increasing African representation on these platforms.

Funding Request:

To successfully organize this event, we are requesting funding support of $150. The funds will be allocated towards logistical needs, including venue rental, refreshments, and materials for participants. This modest amount will greatly assist us in ensuring a smooth and impactful event.

Item Cost (USD) 1. Venue Rental $50 Cost of renting a space suitable for presentations, discussions, and networking activities. 2. Refreshments $40 Light refreshments and snacks for participants throughout the event. 3. Materials and Supplies $30 Printed materials, stationery, and other supplies needed for the event. 4. Transportation Support $20 Assistance for participants who may need help with local transportation to attend the event. 5. Contingency Fund $10 To cover any unexpected costs or additional needs that arise during the event. Total $150

Conclusion:

We believe that the Tamale Wiki Hub’s local WikiIndaba event will be a significant contribution to the broader goals of WikiIndaba 2024, helping to build a stronger, more connected, and more capable community of African Wikimedians. We would greatly appreciate your support in making this event possible.

Jury decision

Dear Ibrahim Achiri,

We are sincerely grateful for the time and effort you have invested in the micro-grant application for WikiIndaba 2024. Your interest in contributing to this event is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that your application for the micro-grant has not been successful. The fact that we received an impressive number of quality applications and the constraint of funding only five applications, as we had indicated in the call for applications, made the decision-making process extremely difficult. Given these constraints, the team decided to award grants only to under-represented communities or groups.

Although your application was not selected, we greatly appreciate your interest in WikiIndaba 2024. To stay engaged and follow all the latest updates, we invite you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and instagram. In addition, we encourage you to subscribe to our YouTube channel, where we will be sharing conference highlights and key sessions. We also suggest that you contact the members of your group who will be attending the conference, so that they can share their experiences and learning with you.

Yours sincerely
