Description
editIn Rwanda, many young people living in rural areas face difficulties accessing the internet, which limits their ability to navigate online information, stay updated, and attend productive events like WikiIndaba. This has hindered their personal growth, interaction with others, and has often led to shyness. After recognizing these challenges, I decided to seek WikiIndaba funds to support young Wikipedia platform users, writers, and editors from the Eastern Province of Rwanda, particularly in Nyagatare District, where internet access is limited.
The funding will be used to organize a local event in Nyagatare district, enabling these eager Wikimedians to participate in the WikiIndaba 2024 conference, which will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from October 4-6, 2024but therefore, we will host the participants only at 4th October 2024 in the opening ceremony. The event will allow participants to connect with the live-streamed and pre-recorded sessions of the conference, helping them contribute to the Wikipedia platform by sharing free skills and knowledge with users around the world.
The event aims to provide Rwandan Wikimedians with an opportunity to stay informed about the latest technologies, activities, projects, and developments within Wikipedia. It will also help them remain updated on Wikipedia's policies and strategies.

Outcomes
editThe funding will support an estimated 16 participants from the Eastern Province of Rwanda, particularly from rural areas such as Nyagatare District. This range allows for an intimate, focused event where participants can actively engage with the conference sessions, share their experiences, and build a stronger connection with the global Wikimedia movement.

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that your application for the micro-grant has not been successful. The fact that we received an impressive number of quality applications and the constraint of funding only five applications, as we had indicated in the call for applications, made the decision-making process extremely difficult. Given these constraints, the team decided to award grants only to under-represented communities or groups.
Although your application was not selected, we greatly appreciate your interest in WikiIndaba 2024.
