| Abstract:
This talk argues that the familiar Wikipedia slogan "The free encyclopedia anyone can edit" is harmful, and creates unnecessary frustration and lost opportunities. I will discuss how it is false that "anyone can edit", what the harm of this attitude is, and will suggest a better one. |

I hope to convince organizers to reconsider their approaches to outreach, and to think differently about matching prospective volunteers with Wikimedia tasks they would be able to enjoy and perform well. | |||
