Abstract:
What are the largest cities in the world with a woman mayor? Who won national book awards in more than one country? What famous people were born in Johannesburg? What is the leading cause of death among chemists? What universities do Nigerian politicians graduate from? Ask Wikidata! The workshop would assume basic familiarity with Wikidata's structure -- items, properties, and values -- and walk attendees from absolute beginner level at querying Wikidata using SPARQL to the multiple superpowers involved in intermediate queries with multiple variables. No prior knowledge of SPARQL necessary! |
Audience : basic | ||
Mode: in-person | |||
Special requirements: I do require two hours to teach this. If that amount of time cannot be allocated, that's fine, but then please reject this proposal. Also, a large screen would be ideal, as in this session I am demonstrating SPARQL code constantly, and people need to be able to read the details of the code. | |||
How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region?
Attendees will add Wikidata queries to their toolbelt, and be more confident in exploring what exists or is missing on Wikidata, for planning their future work with Wikidata, and demonstrating the power of Wikidata to partners. |
