Report on the Participation of Rwebogora at WikiIndaba 2024 in Johannesburg, South Africa

I was happy to be granted another opportunity of attending Wiki Indaba regional conference this year in Johannesburg South Africa after attending Wiki Indaba 2023 which happened in Agadir Morocco. As a scholar from Wikimedia Community User Group Tanzania, i was able to join other attendees and Wikimedians in Johannesburg from 04 - 06 October 2024 to learn, share skills and experiences as well as celebrate the 10 Years anniversary of Wiki Indaba.
During the event i was able to attend some sessions and volunteer by supporting the Video Content team at Sisonke Hall (day 1) as well as capturing memorable images.
Some sessions attended include:
Day 1:
1. Welcome Ceremony
2. The importance of online Indigenous Language Preservation
3. The role of media combating misinformation and the importance of digital literacy
4. Building Bridges in the Wikimedia Movement – A Movement Communications Collaboration session.
5. Wiki African Independence Month
6. Resourcing Wikimedians in Africa: what we are learning & what’s next
7. Let’s Connect Learnings on emerging communities in Sub-Saharan Africa through in- person peer learning session.
Day 2:
1. Tomorrow’s Wikimedia: Youth at the Helm Today
2. The importance, role and powers of the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C)
3. Volunteer culture
4. Women Support in the Wikimedia Movements
Day 3: (Half day)

Also, i was able to attend the social events, pre conference (online) event and the Welcome Party that happened on 03 October 2024 at the Capital On The Park Hotel, Johannesburg South Africa.
Outcome

Take away learning from my participation is pushing the movement to bring impact to my community and the Movement in general.
Impact
editInsights from the conference will bring positive impact to me and my community in general as learnings such as bridging the gender gap and collaboration will be taken into consideration when planning and implementing Wiki projects.
Regarding sharing my learnings, just as i shared my learnings of Wiki Indaba 2023 at Wiki Student Summit 2024 that happened on 16 – 18 July 2024 in Arusha Tanzania and through reporting I’m expecting to do the same in upcoming events and opportunities.
