Description :
Only 0.7% of contributions on Wikipedia come from Africa, and less than 3% of knowledge on English Wikipedia is about Africa. Furthermore, our data shows us that less than 1% of devices that access Wikimedia projects every month are from Africa. The Wikimedia Foundation sees partnerships as a valuable tool in making a difference - mobilizing and engaging Africans to tell their own stories, changing the narrative, decolonizing knowledge on the internet. This panel will host people from the African Union and other partners to discuss, celebrate and acknowledge the African Wikimedians doing this work and as discourse on the future of knowledge creation, preservation, and consumption in Africa at Wiki Indaba 2021. |
