Meeting Notes

edit

Status update on in-progress articles from each journal WJS

  • Problem to get comments from editorial board (past year)
  • How can we improve the feedback mechanism
    • Decision of handling editor or EoC and speak-up ?
    • As many people weigh in as possible?
    • Email vote could be used but still may not be used?
    • Currently 7 day window but occasionally extend
  • 2 Submission update: changes made and ready for handling editor
  • Broadbill editor has not followed through
  • Sustainability through Sci Fi also problem with reviewer
  • 1 Article may have a problem (Paxlovid): because it was published elsewhere 2 days prior to submission - now declined and sent warning to author (one of first major problems in the journal)

WJH

  • Piotr may be able to help ramp up in summer
  • Check mailing list is functioning properly
  • Also change admin because Sarah Vital will be stepping down
  • Draft note on Journal Page that there is a submission backlog
  • It was discovered that editorial decision emails were sent to the general WJH mailing list and not the editorial board mailing list

Confidential “note to editor” section in peer review form

  • Add new confidential vs keep existing process?
  • Are there things that peer reviewer would say in private? There may be power differentials between the peer reviewer and author that would need confidential comments to be conveyed privately
  • Other informal way is that reviewer can email handling editor but its not captured anywhere if changing handling editors
  • Verdict: Add it to the form and see how it goes over the next year
  • Risk : peer reviewer to give a good public review but negative private review or putting the review in the wrong field

Developer - OpenJournal API

  • Difficulty to find someone with open journal systems and wiki
  • Have found someone that are willing to try
  • Should be able to get some of the things done
  • Getting them to run a test
  • After API then
    • Replace authorship declaration form
    • Automatically create wikidata item and email around the board
    • Eliminate people pretending to be other people
