The official language of Ireland is English which is spoken by 94% or population and Irish, the originated main language from this island. The internet penetration in this country is 69.85% or 3,229,108 having internet connection in 2010.[1]

Wikipedia

During November 2010-October 2011, about 0.7% of the traffic to English Wikipedia and 25.7% of traffic to Irish Wikipedia were came from Ireland.[2] The Irish Wikipedia ranked 98th out of 284 wikipedias in the world, with 4 very active users and 23 active contributors in December 2011.[3][4] According to Alexa, Wikipedia ranked the 5th most popular sites in Ireland in the end of 2011.[5] There are only 5.71% or six female users out of 105 users explicitly set their gender in Irish Wikipedia.[6]

In December 2011, there were 5,760 people and 3,700 women of all ages from Ireland who were interested in Wikipedia on Facebook.[7] On English Wikipedia, there is 1 article about a roller derby league from this country. There are 2 articles about women's association football clubs in this country on English Wikipedia. There are 26 articles about models from this country on English Wikipedia. On Aragonese Wikipedia, there is 1 article about female actors from this country.[8]

Wikiversity, Wikinews, Other Projects

There are no women from this country involved in leadership roles on English or German Wikiversity. Their participation is minimal to non-existent.

There are no women from this country who are administrators on incubator and no active women editors from this country. The project has few participants overall, with only 44 users identified as female and 516 identified as male.

During the December 2011 fundraising appeal, no Irish, men or women, were featured as part of the appeal. During the 2011 Summer of Research, the WMF hired eight research fellows. Of these, only one was female, and she was from the United States. There were four males from American universities, The other researchers included men from a Japanese university, a Swiss university and a Canadian university. There were no research fellows, male or female, from this country.
