A Wiki Academy is a public outreach event in which the participants are introduced to the basics of Wikipedia (and other WikiProjects) and how to contribute to it.

Report

Before the workshop, the team had a discussion with the director of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies Dr. Sreeradha Dutta, who had some doubts regarding the policies and working procedures, which was comprehensively understood and most of the inquiries were clarified.

After the self-introductory session by the participants, Sujay Chandra from Kolkata Wikimedia chapter commenced the workshop with a brief talk about Wikipedia. Sujay also demonstrated how to edit an existing page. There were a few incorrect information about the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies wiki page, the participants wanted to edit as a real life problem. Sujay, Rangan and Santanu demonstrated the procedure. Biswarup Ganguly demonstrated the method of image uploading in Commons by using one of his images as the logo for institute captured during the workshop.

Two of the participants created their user ID and edited the page with the assistance of Wikimedia Kolkata Team. One of the participants edited as unregistered user and the difference between a registered and an unregistered user was explained to them. This session generated great enthusiasm for the 3-hour Wikipedia learning, and editing session.
