Wiki Explores Aurangabad - Phase I

Wiki Explores Aurangabad-Phase I is a 14 day event to document some areas of Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, India.

Aurangabad

The objective of this event is to photo-document the various heritage structures in and around Aurangabad district (currently renamed to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar). It is one of the districts of Maharashtra which is absolutely rich in built heritage. There are several rock cut architecture, temples, fort and fine examples of Mughal architecture. While there are many imageries of the popular locations in Wikimedia Commons, unfortunately they are not systematically documented and lacks quality images. Also relatively unknown places like Janjala Fort, Ghatotkacha Caves, Antur Forts have little or no presence in Commons. This is the first phase of documenting heritage monuments at Maharashtra.

Goal

  1. Photograph heritage sites at Aurangabad city and others areas of Aurangabad district.
  2. Upload media for the heritage structures of Aurangabad district on Wikimedia Common.
  3. Create / Update articles about the heritage structures on Bengali and English Wikipedia.
  4. Create / Update items in Wikidata.

  • 03.01.2025(Friday) - Depart from Kolkata by flight to Aurangabad city by flight with stopover at Mumbai
  • 04.01.2025(Saturday) - Reach Aurangabad city early morning. Check into hotel. Full day photo documentation of several areas of the city. Overnight at hotel in Aurangabad city.
  • 05.01.2025(Sunday)- Full day photo documentation of Aurangabad city and Daulatabad Fort. Overnight at hotel in Aurangabad city.
  • 06.01.2025(Monday)- Check out from hotel and drive to Ajanta Caves while visiting Antur Fort, Zanzala fort and Ghatotkach Caves. Over night at MTDC Ajanta
  • 07.01.2025 (Tuesday)- Full day photo documentation of Ajanta Caves. Over night at MTDC Ajanta.
  • 08.01.2025 (Wednesday)- Full day photo documentation of Ajanta Caves. Over night at MTDC Ajanta.
  • 09.01.2025 (Thursday)- Full day photo documentation of Ajanta Caves. Over night at MTDC Ajanta.
  • 10.01.2025 (Friday)- Full day photo documentation of Ajanta Caves. Over night at MTDC Ajanta.
  • 11.01.2025 (Saturday)- Check out from MTDC Ajanta. Drive to Lonar Crater and document the temples near the lake. Then drive to Aurangabad city. Dibyendu leaves for Kolkata by flight via Mumbai. Anjan joins the team by flight from Kolkata. Overnight at hotel in Aurangabad city.
  • 12.01.2025 (Sunday) Check out from hotel in Aurangabad city. Drive to Ellora Caves while documenting heritage spots at Khuldabad. Overnight at MTDC Ellora.
  • 13.01.2025 (Monday) Full day photo documentation of Ellora Caves. Overnight at MTDC Ellora.
  • 14.01.2025 (Tuesday) Drive to Pitalkotra Buddhist Caves. Overnight at MTDC Ellora.
  • 15.01.2025 (Wednesday) Full day photo documentation of Ellora Caves. Overnight at MTDC Ellora.
  • 16.01.2025 (Thursday) Full day photo documentation of Ellora Caves. Overnight at MTDC Ellora.
  • 17.01.2025 (Friday) Half day Photo documentation of Ellora Caves. Check out after lunch. Drive to Aurangabad City. Overnight at hotel in Aurangabad city.
  • 18.01.2025 (Saturday) Check out from hotel in Aurangabad city and drive to Airport to catch morning flight to Kolkata via Hyderabad.
