Wiki Loves Voices

Project description

Wiki Loves Voices aims to create a public domain repository for sound samples of people from all over the world. The voice sound samples can be used for different software (like for example GPS audio guide), Wikipedia articles or a time capsule sent in space just like the Voyager recording. The project has following aims:

  • audio sample recording in all languages of the numbers;
Audio the numbers 1-10 in Albanian (help | download | file info)
  • audio sample recording in all languages of the alphabet;
  • audio sample recording in all languages of the main phrases used in audio GPS guides.
  • audio sample recording in all languages of the main phrases used in elevators;
  • audio sample recording in all languages of the main phrases in each language (welcome, good morning etc.);
  • audio sample recording in all languages of the animals in each language (welcome, good morning etc.).

Project history

Wiki Loves Voices is a project initiated from Elio Qoshi and Redon Skikuli, Albanian Wikimedians and members of Open Labs hackerspace located in Tirana, Albania.

All materials will be published in the commons page and will be considered part of the project. This meta page will be used as documentation of the project.

Recording hardware and software

Hardware that can be used for recording:
- Android powered smartphone;
- iPhone;
- Windows smpartphones;
- microphone;
- audio mixer.

Software that can be used for audio editing:
- Audacity (cross-platform open source audio editing software).

Feel free to add your proposals for the best recording process.
