Knowledge Management Associates

edit

Consulting and implementation of Wikibase & Semantic MediaWiki solutions. Linking data with Wikidata.

Micelio

edit

Micelio is involved in various implementation and research projects on using Wikidata. Most notably the Gene Wiki project where biomedical public databases are aligned with Wikidata. While Wikidata remains core, various use cases emerged where data is not eligible for inclusion in Wikidata (e.g. non-public reuse licenses or in need of a data model that is not yet implemented on Wikidata). In close collaboration with others we then explore the possibilities of deploying and reusing wikibase to allow creating a federated landscape of deployed wikibases that have Wikidata as a core. This through running Proof-of-concept studies or assisting in "Bring your own data" workshops, where participants are assisted in adding their data to a wikibase.

WikiWorks

edit

We believe that Wikibase is an inferior solution to Page Forms, Cargo and Semantic MediaWiki, and do not recommend it for use by any but the most multilingual of data sets. Nevertheless, some organizations wish to implement it. Fortunately, for those cases we have developed a suggested suite of tools, which we call Enhanced Wikibase, which can make Wikibase more likely to succeed. We also have a great deal of experience with MediaWiki support, hosting and maintenance in general.
