- Abstract (in about 300 words)
I wish to give a talk about the necessity of more outreach initiatives primarily from the younger wikimedians to engage more people with the wikimedia movement, and would also speak about my experiences and thoughts.
I started my journey on Wikipedia by writing articles, very young, when I was in the 10th Standard, although I started with English Wikipedia, later on, after seeing the lack of information available in Hindi language on Wikipedia and the Internet in general, I shifted to writing articles in Hindi, and since then Hindi Wikipedia has acted as my home wiki I created around 1500+ articles on Hindi wiki and also later started writing on Maithili Wikipedia, when I came to know about it. Later on, after being inspired from other wikipedians, I realized that apart from obviously contributing actively online, I must try recruiting new editors on Wikipedia so that we get more people like me, and so I started engageing actively in more offline activities and have been part of some big endeavours like participation of Hindi Wikipedia in the World Hindi Conference and organising Hindi Wikipedia conference for engaging a diverse and widespread community to assemble together and work strategically in a planned way. What I strongly believe through my experience is that young wikipedians of my age have immense potential and energy to recruite people of their age to the Wikimedia Movement and must take up outreach initiatives themselves.
