There are several reasons for having a Wikimania in Chicago:

  1. Chicago is easily accessible by plane (O'Hare), road, or train.
  2. Chicago has several ideal locations for a Wikimania (colleges, convention centers, etc.)
  3. Chicago is relatively easy to move about with a well-designed public transportation system
  4. Chicago has held a successful Wikimeet.

I'm willing to help with the Chicago bid, if one is happening. Mchua (Chicago native, Boston student)

Willing to help as well -- the University of Chicago would be an excellent spot, though I must admit to a slight bias ... — Dan | talk 01:25, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am definitely interested in a future Chicago venue, although I have misgivings about UC -- neighborhood isn't that good. Might prefer to use NWU as a venue. 2007 seems unlikely since 2006 was in US, but definitely up for 2008 or 2009. Kelly Martin 07:22, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Loop-based venues should also be considered. A number of the colleges and universities in downtown Chicago have a lot of space available in the summertime and the loop is convenient in terms of transportation and accomodation. Columbia College, DePaul University, Robert Morris College, Harold Washington College, Loyola University, and UIC could all provide venue opportunities, I'd think. --216.125.49.252 17:45, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
