Wikimania 2012/Bids/Washington, D.C./Letter

We want to let you know that Wikimedia DC, our local group, is putting a bid together to host Wikimania 2012, Wikimedia's big, international conference, in DC. We are in process of selecting a venue, probably one of the local universities, and fleshing out the other details. The conference would take place in the summer of 2012.

Our local group is in process of forming a local Wikimedia chapter, but in the meanwhile we have been working closely with the only existing US-based chapter, Wikimedia NYC. Here in DC, we have been actively doing outreach, including collaborations with the Smithsonian Institution and the National Archives.

While we will do nearly 100% of the work, we are seeking support from like-minded organizations. We may need help with sponsorships, either directly and/or reaching out to other potential sponsors, contacting potential speakers, etc.

We would like to know if Creative Commons would support us? with a letter of support? (e.g. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2011/Bids/Haifa#Support)
