Issue Description
Can I contribute online? Yes. You can contribute to Wikimania Esino Lario online.
  • Share your ideas. We can not implement everything but we will definitely take your ideas into consideration and try to include them and do as much as we can. You can share your ideas with the teams below or with the communication team.
  • Contribute to the Program.
  • Contribute to the Communication (in particular update of websites, news on the social media, informing people on mailing lists).
  • Participate in the evaluation of Scholarships.
  • ICT. Help in improving the tools for the online registration.
  • Documentation. Contribute by contributing to Wikimedia projects. Improve and enrich articles and maps, upload your photos, provide tourist information, translate content. In particular we would really like Wikimania Esino Lario to trigger the improvement of open content related to the Alps, Lombardy Region and the cultural heritage of Italy.
Can I be a volunteer during the event? Yes. You can volunteer during the event:
  • Program. Moderating working sessions and participating in documenting them (reports of sessions, interviews to participants, photos, videos, news on social media).
  • Technical. Supporting the technical team on site, by helping solving problems (in particular installing equipment and backup equipment).
  • Info points and mobility. Welcoming attendees, providing information, directing the traffic of attendees (in Esino Lario but also at airports and railway stations).
  • Buildings. Each building will have a support team (present on site and managing the building).
  • Registration. Supporting the registration desk (participating in registering attendees, providing them with the welcome kit and directing problems to the right people).
  • Accommodation. Being the reference volunteer in a specific location; you will sleep there and you will be the reference person in case of needs or emergencies.
  • Health. Are you a doctor? Please join the health and medical team.

It would be useful if you could define the amount of hours you expect to contribute with or the corresponding cost of your services.

The fundamental principles by which Wikimania Esino Lario operates can be summarized in five "pillars":

  1. Collaboration. The team is one team, which includes all the people involved, who are already wikimedians or not. The edit button exists also offline, and wikimedians are all the people who want to modify things to share their knowledge and to support the growth, development and distribution of free, multilingual, educational content. We include all the project contributors in the organizing team, we credit work, we design a program meant for different kind of participants, we include in a transversal way the interests and needs of different people, we make sure participants are in the best conditions to obtain a visa, we select for scholarships dedicated members which need economic support to participate (through a transparent process which provides full - really full - or partial scholarships, according to the needs), and we plan an inclusive and collaborative event.
  2. Scalability. We are not planning one event, we are planning a format which can be replicated in other places. We document what we are doing and how we do it, we produce guidelines for the future and to involve people who can contribute further to other events; we look for solutions which can be relevant for other contexts.
  3. What already exists. Priority is given to local suppliers and to tap on existing resources. We look at previous experiences and we build on it.
  4. What can last. Priority is given to invest in what lasts beyond the event. We reduce to the minimum all the expenses related to the ephemeral and we invest time, energy and budget in what is useful and relevant beyond the event.
  5. Experimenting and having fun. We gather for the pleasure of it.
