The scholarship process
editThe scholarships were given by a committee of community members supported by a WMPL community support staff member. The process was designed to be very straightforward and providing the applicant a quick decission.
All the applications were accepted and all applicants have received funding.
Funded items
editOverall we funded:
- 8 headsets
- 3 cameras
- 1 data package
- 1 Wikimania-watching space
- Lunch-sets for 6 people
- 1 Wikimania watching event
- 8 post-Wikimania session translations
Motivation to Wikimania participation (according to scholarship survey)

- gaining more knowledge about technical-related topics
- networking and renewing contacts
- updated on interesting projects related to GLAM, gender gap and education
- learning more about sister projects and copyright
Learnings
edit- For 50% of people who took part in the scholarship program this was the first Wikimania and the first international Wikimedia event – it has been the most inclusive Wikimania ever!
- small hardware hase been used after the Wikimania on other Wikimedia-related events which means Wikimania scholarships boosted participation in other online events as well
- community scholarship committee helped the process to go smoothly and quickly
Translations
editThe translations have been added to sessions:
