How did you attend Wikimania (virtually or in-person)?

I attended the Wikimania 2022 Event virtually.

What did you spend the scholarship funds on?

Received scholarship funds was used to procure a noice cancellation headphone, purchase data for internet, pay for a workspace, local travel from home to the workspace and of course victuals to celebrate with too.

Takeaways – choose 3 specific Wikimania sessions you attended and describe your key take-aways per session.

Having rewatched recorded sessions on YouTube, I particularly learnt from Daria Cybulska’s, (Director of Programmes, Wikimedia UK) presentation on how Wikimedia through it’s projects have helped build knowledge literacy amongst its users and how it can significantly increase engagement in democratic processes and strengthen the impacts of civil societies.

Andrew Lih also shared insights on experiences as a Wikimedian in Residence which provides an opportunity for volunteer contributors to share ideas, network and interact with external entities towards achieving the objectives of the community in promoting credible and free knowledge.

It was also an interesting sight to watch the celebration of Wikimedians of the Year. It was a good approach at identifying and appreciating folks who are doing good things with promoting free knowledge and inspiring others to be a part of the movement.

How did you connect with other people during Wikimania 2022? How did you celebrate at Wikimania 2022?

It was an opportunity to interact, network and share experiences as well as celebrating our contributions with the movement as volunteers, especially with local members.
