- Abstract
Wikipedia belongs in education. What happens if teachers and educators believe it doesn't belong anywhere at all? And that it is a complete mismatch with any academic endeavor? In such cases, getting the support of educators is a crucial first step to the establishment of a successful Wiki project. Since this stance on Wikipedia is common in academic institutions, this session presents how we dispelled negative attitude about Wikipedia among educators & learners using Wikipedia Education Program (WEP) and Wiki Research. The session does't discuss the inner-workings of WEP and Wiki Research; it rather focuses on the learnings that both educators & students achieved from both activities.
- How does your proposal add knowledge to the international community in Wikimedia and education?
It shows, with practical examples, how different Wiki initiatives in educational institutions can address different reasons for why teachers and educators don't like Wikipedia & how can they employ it for the benefit of their learners.
- Who is the intended ideal audience for the topic?
University level teachers, academic researchers & university level students.
