- Abstract
- The students from Luis A. Huergo Industrial Institute (Buenos Aires, Argentina) have participated in different projects proposed by Wikimedia Argentina. The Wikipedia Editiing Club held in 2018 was an opportunity to explore different academic fields, share information and investigate, offering teenagers the possibility to plan and debate in order to build their own argumentative strategies while relating the phenomena that surround them with scientific ideas and the world these ideas seek to explain. Our students from the technical orientation of Secondary Education in Renewable Energy, the only educational modality offered in this field in Buenos Aires City, outstood by their level of content production. This training allowed learners to understand and analyze the complex and heterogeneous panorama that implies the use of energy in the world as well as the differences between natural resources patrimony and those of purchasing power. In addition, the Huergo Institute participated in the Argentina Documentary Memory Competition organized by the PEA Network (UNESCO) and Wikimedia Argentina, taking and producing photographic images of local cultural heritage. The students learned the importance of working with Wiki Commons and Wikidata Projects for the production of open knowledge and free access. In 2019, we want to continue with the editing activities, inviting students to ask questions where the answer is a social construct framed by the educational community. Imagination and logical thinking will be channels through which students are expected to move throughout their training, in order to understand the contradictory, complex dynamics that take place in the constant challenge of facing the unknown. In the editing activities, these young men and women will investigate different topics that will be validated by their teachers. Focus will be on the production of content that accounts for the local idiosyncrasy and the importance of developing knowledge with a Latin American perspective on its global impact. Taking advantage of the accessibility of the platform, we think that it may become a space in which young learners could register what they have researched in a collaborative way, validating knowledge through various resources.
- How does your proposal add knowledge to the international community in Wikimedia and education?

- Creating content that accounts for the local idiosyncrasy and the importance of developing knowledge with a Latin American perspective on its global impact.
- Challenging students to ask questions where the answer is a social construct framed by the educational community
