Abstract

Wikisource, the digital library of free texts, is one of the largest collaborative library which support over 70 languages around the world. In past years, we have seen Wikisource growing into the core infrastructure for some of the marginalized language communities. Be it the Balinese community which scanned manuscripts from people’s houses across Bali and eventually transcribed them to Wikisource or the Bengali Wikisource which collaborated with the British Library to digitize some of the rare texts from the latter's collection.

The purpose of this session to talk about some case studies around the world that showcase the value of Wikisource for libraries.

Expected outcomes

Participants develop an understanding of Wikisource and go on to work with texts, especially the rare books sections, at their respective institutions.
