Abstract:
Books serve as vessels for the rich tapestry of human experience, bridging cultures and fostering global conversations. With its vast reach, Wikipedia plays a crucial role in disseminating information about books, evidenced by millions of article views across languages. The #EveryBookItsReader campaign, led by volunteers from diverse regions, seeks to enhance Wikipedia’s literary content annually throughout the month of April, aligning with World Book Day on April 23. This initiative not only supports readers but also benefits authors, librarians, and publishers by providing accessible, high-quality information. In an era where misinformation can spread rapidly, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of book-related content on platforms like Wikipedia is a vital form of anti-disinformation activism. By improving the quality of information about books, the #EveryBookItsReader campaign contributes to a broader effort to combat misinformation, ensuring readers and professionals alike can access trustworthy content. Rooted in the principles of S.R. Ranganathan’s library science, the campaign underscores the timeless relevance of connecting every book with its reader, while also upholding the integrity of knowledge in the digital age.
