In April, an active member of Wikimedia Armenia and Wiki community Angel X has started a project in Armenian Wikipedia which covered topics concerning music. Members of Wikimedia Armenia and Wikiclubs participated in the project and had their contribution to the development and creation of various articles on music. The purpose of the project was to improve and create musical articles in Armenian Wikipedia.
During the 30 days of the project, 27 editors created 274 articles and improved 4 articles. A total of 4,912,522 bytes were added to Armenian Wikipedia. The most active participants were TheBabushka (65 articles, 1,553,424 bytes), Angel X (63 articles, 678,934 bytes), and Daughter of Billie (44 articles, 819,564 bytes). Wikimedia Armenia will award prizes to the most active participants of the project.
Wikipedia course for Enlight Public Research Center

Wikimedia Armenia has started a collaboration with Enlight Public Research Center since April 20. An online Wikipedia course is held for 9 members from the Enlight Research Center. The purpose of the Wikipedia course is to introduce participants to Wikipedia tools, Wiki movement, and other wiki platforms, as well as teach them how to edit in the Armenian Wikipedia.
The online meeting is organized 3 times a week for 1-1.5 hours via the Zoom program. The team of international relations specialists, economists, and philologists got acquainted with wiki tools and acquired skills in editing Armenian Wikipedia. Participants have already created a number of articles by doing translations from English and Russian Wikipedia. The course will continue in May.
A new format for Saturday workshops
editDue to the pandemic in the world, Wikimedia Armenia had to move its work to the online domain. All the events in April were organized online. So the Saturday workshops also had to be carried out online. By the way, people participated in these online workshops more actively.
Saturday workshops, with this new format, took place on April 10, 17, and 24. The training is done through a video call, during which the trainers share their computer screen and explains the topic of the day. The workshop is divided into two major groups: the first for experienced editors and the second for beginners.
For the participants of the first group, one topic is prepared every week, about which more in-depth information and knowledge is given, then the participants discuss various projects that are going on in various wiki platforms. During the month of April, a training course on Wikimedia Commons was held with experienced participants. During the workshop, the participants discussed the Infobox template which is one of the most used templates in Wikipedia.
The second part of the workshop is intended for new editors. During these workshops, beginners are introduced to various wiki tools; trainers teach how participants can edit Wikipedia by showing them on their shared screens. A total of 48 experienced participants and 9 newcomers took part in the Saturday workshops in April.
Armenian Wikipedia Ckeck-a-thon

The number of articles in the Armenian Wikipedia is increasing day by day, but the quality of the articles depends on the verifiability of information and literacy. Wikimedia Armenia started the “Armenian Wikipedia check-a-thon” initiative which is aimed at improving the quality of articles in Wikipedia. Both experienced and beginner editors participated in the initiative. By registering on the check-a-thon’s page, the participants have started checking articles by selecting them from lists prepared beforehand. Checking an article involves several actions:
- Checking and correcting grammatical errors, misprints, and syntax,
- Adding pictures that are important for the article and are available in other languages in the corresponding Wikipedia articles,
- Checking and adding categories,
- Checking the availability of sources, in case of absence, finding and adding as much as possible.
In total, 24 people, both beginners and experienced editors took part in the check-a-thon. In order to facilitate the experience of the new editors concerning the registration and editing on Wikipedia, videos have been made, which show how to register on the Armenian Wikipedia, how to become a participant in the check-a-thon, and how to edit articles.
WikiClubs' report
editIn April 2020, Wikiclubs participated in many projects organized in the Armenian Wikipedia. During the month, the 27 clubs jointly had a contribution of 1,373,918 bytes in the Wikisource, and created 1,574 articles in Wikipedia, making 1,085 edits, with a total of 17,169,566 bytes. The club members participated in "CEE Spring 2020", "Art+Feminism 2020", "Music Project", "Armenian Wikipedia Checkathon", "One Article per Week" and other projects. Wikiclubs continue to work online, and workshops are done via video calls.
On April 24, the members of Hatsik Wikiclub made a video dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, which was posted on the club's Facebook page.
An edit-a-thon dedicated to the International Day for the Preservation of Monuments was organized for the Koghb Wikiclub members on April 18, during which 2 articles were created: Sendai Daikannon and Leshan Giant Buddha. On April 29, articles dedicated to World Dance Day were created.
Goris Wikiclub organized an online event on April 2 dedicated to International Children's Book Day, during which they took pictures with children's books and uploaded on Wikimedia Commons. Through a video call, the club conducted a training-discussion on the topic of Wikidata pages and categories.
An online discussion was held at the Alaverdi Wikiclub on April 10 dedicated to Siblings Day. During the discussion, the participants touched upon such issues as how the birth order influences a person’s character and their psychology, in particular, what kind of impact it has on the characters of the older, middle, younger children, and twins. The Wikiclub also celebrated various other holidays by writing articles dedicated to them:
- April 8 - the International Day of Gypsies
- April 17- the International Day of Hemophilia
- April 22 - the most famous photo of the planet Earth.

The article “Wikipedia Reveals New Sides of Translation” represents the experience of students from Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences who spent their internship at Wikimedia Armenia.
