Wiki Loves Earth 2023
editIn June 2023, Wikimedia Armenia joined the annual “Wiki Loves Earth” photo contest.
The natural monuments of the Republic of Armenia are 232, the lists of which, sorted by the regions of Armenia, were available on the event page. In order to help the participants of the contest, the articles of the nature reserves and national parks of Armenia were posted on the contest page.
During the month of June, 37 participants from the Armenian community, out of which 10 were new registered participants, uploaded 3,039 pictures of natural monuments of the RA to Wikicommons. Throughout July, these pictures will be filtered according to their quality, size, wrong titles and after that they will be transferred to the jury for a decision.
Photo walk
editOn June 20, Wikimedia Armenia organized a photo excursion/trip to Gegharot Waterfall, Aparan Reservoir and Kasagh Gorge within the framework of “Wiki Loves Earth 2023” photo contest. There were 15 people participating in the trip who had the opportunity to take pictures of the breathtaking Gegharot Waterfall, the slopes of Aragats, Gegharot River, various flowers, insects, Aparan Reservoir from above, Kasagh River and its gorge. The trip included some hiking. After the trip, 15 participants uploaded more than 500 photos to Wikicommons.
Awards Ceremony for the “Presence of Museums in Wiki Projects” contest-edit-a-thon
editOn June 30, the results of the "Presence of Museums in Wiki Projects" contest in Armenian Wikipedia were summarized at the Museum of History of Armenia, preceding the International Day of Museums.
The President of Wikimedia Armenia Arshak Shahenyan talked about the cooperation which has become an annual thing. The project coordinator Mher Bekaryan presented the importance of the projects dedicated to museums in wiki projects and their continuity. Afterwards, certificates were granted to the winners of the competition. The representatives of ICOM Armenia and the History Museum of Armenia delivered a speech. They also prepared prizes for the winners. The significance of the project’s continuity was once again emphasized. All active participants received certificates for participation. After the ceremony, a tour at the Museum of History of Armenia was organized for the participants.
Wikiclubs’
editAs of June 30, there are 143 registered members in 7 Wikiclubs (Goris, Ddmashen, Jermuk, Lernapat, Koghb, Hatsik, and Stepanakert). In June, 2023 Wikiclub members participated in the new project during which the materials of the encyclopedia "Armenian Typography and Book Art" (“Armenian Encyclopedia” Publishing House, 2015) released under the Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 license were transferred to Armenian Wikipedia and wikified. Wikiclub members also created missing items of the corresponding pages in Wikidata, or linked the created articles to already existing items. Within the framework of this project, 353 articles with a total volume of 623,842 bytes were created in June. The project will continue in July, as well.
Throughout June, out of 143 Wikiclub members 69 contributed to Wikipedia. In total, they have created 482 articles and made 1570 edits with a volume of 2,279,307 bytes. During the month of June, 56 Wikiclub members contributed to Wikidata, by making 2706 edits in total. 23 of Wikiclub members contributed to Wikisource where they made 217 edits creating 67 pages and proofreading 50. Their contribution was 196,372 bytes.
