Wikimedia Awareness in Ogbomosho

Ogbomosho is a bustling metropolis within Oyo State, Nigeria and it is a home to a thriving community of nearly one million residents. The city takes pride in its educational landscape, housing esteemed institutions like Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Best Legacy College of Education, and the School of Nursing. Adding to the city's vibrant tapestry are several writers' clubs and associations, contributing their essence to its intellectual and cultural vibrancy. Yet, amid these promising strides, a visible gap remains, revealing a shortage of editors, initiatives and lack of awareness aimed at fostering Wikimedia's growth within the heart of Ogbomosho's community.

This project primary objective is to launch an inaugural Wiki community and training meetup in Ogbomosho, designed to keep participants engaged with ongoing and future Wikimedia-related activities in the community. It aims to train and recruit editors from Ogbomosho to support Wikimedia projects. By increasing awareness of Wikipedia and its sister projects in Ogbomosho, it hopes to promote the use of Wikimedia, especially among the youth. Additionally, the project aims to address content gaps in articles related to local and international scholars, organizations, tourist attractions, and historical sites in Ogbomosho by collaborating with experienced editors.

Goals

Create awareness about Wikimedia Foundation projects in Ogbomosho
Train and recruit new editors for the Wikimedia Community in Wikimedia Ogbomosho community.
Increase proficiency editing skills for existing editors (if any).
Add or improve local content about Ogbomosho on Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.

Action points

Raise awareness through social media platforms.
Gather participant data.
Instruct participants on creating and accessing Wikimedia accounts.
Provide an overview of Wikipedia and Wikidata project tools.
Familiarize participants with Wikipedia and its sister projects.
Conduct practical training, hands-on edit-a-thons for editing English Wikipedia articles.
Introduce participants to Yoruba Wikipedia and how they can make edit via Yoruba Wikipedia.
Introduce participants to Wikicommons.
Provide practical guidance on uploading images to Wikicommons and making use of Wikimedia Commons images for Wikidata items or Wikipedia articles.
Engage in discussions regarding the unique challenges of editing on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikicommons.
Lead practical, hands-on edit-a-thons for editing and creating items on Wikidata.

Each newly created Wikidata item garners 1.5 points.

Every reference inserted into a Wikipedia article is worth 1 point.

Accumulate 2 points for each additional 1kb of content added to a Wikipedia article, provided it includes a reputable reference.

Photography contest

Photos must be your work and free from plagiarism
The pictures should be of notable places and Personalities of Ogbomosho
Priority will be given based on the quality of your photograph.
