What happened in the past month?
editMusicians @ Bibliothèque de la Cité, Geneva, 15.06
editOn Saturday, May 15th, the last workshop at the Bibliothèque de la Cité gathered 5 experienced Wikipedians and a few beginners. The article about singer Amina Cadelli was improved, and two other were created: one about musician and producer Deena Abdelwahed and another about the city library of Carouge, a town next to Geneva.
Les sans pagEs @ MAMCO, Geneva, 19.06
editNattes à chat et Galahmm gave their last workshop at MAMCO. Before starting, they gave a presentation to the director of the institution, Lionel Bovey, as well as to three of the employees, to summarize the results and accomplishments of the series of workshops. A new editor came and used her lunch break to become a Wikipedian. Throughout the year, 12 new people learned how to contribute, several became Wikipedians, and 12 new articles were created, as well as 11 improved. A report will soon be sent to MAMCO, which you can consult here (still under construction as of publishing time).
School-work alternation in collaboration with Wikimedia Italy
editFrom 27th May to 15th July Wikimedia Switzerland and Wikimedia Italy joined their effort to have a school-work alternation in Luino, small town based in Lake Maggiore hosting in the past also the Schweizer Schule Luino. During this activities 4 students of tourism and 15 students of computer science of the local Technical High School worked to write articles in Wikivoyage about the villages around the small town. Finally Luino, Laveno-Mombello, Porto Valtravaglia, Germignaga and Cittiglio have their own Wikivoyage article. The experiment has been important for Wikimedia Switzerland demostrating that students having learning problems can contribute easily to Wikimedia projects improving a lot their skills in communication.
Here the articles:
WAF: 300 years Liechtenstein
editDuring Pentecost around 20 Wikipedians from Austria, Germany and Switzerland met in Liechtenstein to prepare the article landscape of the country's 300 years anniversary. During these days and beyond, 1339 photos were uploaded (WAF 300 Jahre Liechtenstein). The pictures give a small impression of the activities of the group around Plutowiki and Pakeha, who were responsible for the organization. The event seemed to be a good mixture of high value guide cultural tour and feel-the-free-nature adventure hiking.
The conditions in the Youth Hostel were very good and the hostel was the perfect starting point to the various destinations. It is almost impossible to list all the different activities (for details, please have a look at the event program), but it is remarkable that many news channels reported about this event: Liechtensteiner Volksblatt, Liechtensteiner Vaterland, Radio Liechtenstein, 1 FL TV and so on (multiple reports). Even the LIECHTENSTEIN Bus displaid a short message on their screen in the public transport busses.

GLAM-on-Tour in the Iron Library
editThe spring issue of the GLAM-on-Tour series took place in late June in and around Schaffhausen. The Monastary Paradies, where the Iron Library is situated to the corporate archives of the Georg Fischer group in the former Paradies Monastery. Although it lies only a few meters beyond the canton border in the Canton of Thurgau, it is not only logistically part of the environment of the city of Schaffhausen. There, too, the pre-program took place in the Museum zu Allerheiligen (Museum of All Saints) in which we will probably make another stop next year.
Overly caring support throughout the event with very effective staffing helped our approximately one dozen volunteers to search and evaluate the archives. The result is something to be proud of: Nearly 30 new articles have been created around this complex topics and innumerable improvements have been made to the article inventory as well as to the 200 new photos that have been uploaded to Commons. Other guided tours, i.e. the visiting of the factory halls, the monastery complex and the temporary exhibition of the archive. Remains to mention that we have been spoiled with the food and we want to thank our hosts.

Visit at the Energiemuseum in Luterbach
editOnce again, Gestumblindi has prepaired an exciting opening program for us, namely a visit to the Luterbach Energy Museum. In Luterbach, a suburb of Solothurn, just under a dozen Wikipedians have defied the heat and considered a functioning hydroelectric power plant built in 1888 on the Emmekanal. Even though "water" sounds like a refreshment, it was anything but that, as the generators ran at full speed and the only pleasant place to stay in the engine house was under the huge flywheel that set the air in motion. In the visually located exhibition glasshouse stands the monstrous Sulzer three-cylinder diesel engine from 1911, which was also experienced under expert guidance. The time since the beginning of the industrialization of the small town passed by very excitingly. We have seen again what is still unwritten, and get lots of suggestions.
The tour took even longer than planned, so that only a train later could be reached. Never before the Solothurn Stammtisch was so late in the year, but shortly before the summer break, even in the well-ventilated Kreuz, many topical issues made for heated discussion, which we dealt with constructively.
Announcements
editRequest for feedback on French-language GLAM partnerships
editIn the context of the Wikimedia strategy 2018-2020, the Foundation is looking for feedback on how to improve GLAM partnerships. If you participated in a GLAM partnership in Romandie, please share your experience here, on meta.
The next stage of the Amoretti team will be in Ornavasso (Verbania), where Carlo Amoretti (1741 – 1816) reported that there once was a Walser community, but that has since pretty much disappeared. The small village hosts a small archeological museum and the editathon will be held there.
Workshop and Wiknic in Geneva, 27.07
editLast May, several Wikipedians visited the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la ville de Genève and the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Genève. But then, we had no time to use the ressources the two places generously shared with us. We started a small project page, but did not have time to move forward. So if you came to the visits, bring the documents we were given, and let's edit! And if you were not there, this is the occasion to edit on flora and fauna topics. The workshop will take place at Itopie, 15 rue Lissignol, from 2PM to 6PM.
We will then move to the parc des Cropettes to share a picnic - Wikimedia CH will provide a few pizzas, drinks, something to lie on, and tableware, but feel free to bring some food or drink to share if you would like.
If you are interested in joining the event, or part of it, please sign up here.
WikiConvention francophone inscriptions end 28.07
editIf you want to attend the WikiConvention francophone and have not yet signed up, please do it on this form before July 28th.
You can see the page of the event on here.
