Datathon Zurich (16th June)

edit
Opening and closing session of the Datathon Zurich

The 16th June the first Datathon has been held in Switzerland with the partnership of the University of Zurich, the Stadt of Zurich and the Kanton of Zurich. The name is a composition of "data" and "marathon" and the goal is to work on data uploading and data quality.

Differently from the usual wikidata workshops, it has been explained how to model data, how to inject data, how to prepare data to inject, how to verify the quality of data (i.e. duplicates).

Around 15 participants worked around their own data supported by a group of mentors, and among all the Statistical Office of the Town and the Canton of Zurich (Open Data ZH and OGD Kanton ZH), Open Data Thurgau, SBB Historic and PLAZI.

GLAM-on-tour at MAMCO (22d-24th June)

edit

The first ever GLAM-on-tour in Romandie took place at MAMCO. A member of the MAMCO team was available at all times to answer to questions. The museum prepared a very complete program, with presentations and an exhibition visit, for the 13 participants (and a half, since one of them was quite pregnant!) who attended. We got a chance to learn more about the building, which was previously owned by a high tech company from centuries past (in Frensh), and about the creation of the museum, which took 20 years in the making. The private library of the museum was made available to participants, with a selected bibliography, and archives from the museum.

Contributors edited Wikipedia in French, Italian, and German. Topics concerning women artists gained more presence on all of the Wikipedias and on Wikidata.

Wikipedia Writers’ Workshop at the Iron Library, June 23rd 2018

edit

As part of the jubilee "100 Years of GF in Monastery Grange Paradies", the Iron Library and the Georg Fischer AG Corporate Archive invited all interested authors to an open Wikipedia workshop. Although, as expected, the number of participants was lower than last year, when the writing workshop was under the auspices of the archive day, but also this time found new authors to Wikipedia. In a short lecture, we explained how the online encyclopedia works and started boldly with new articles. Individual results were already admired at the end of the day, but a larger number of articles are still being worked on.
