editCreative workshop: July 9th
On Saturday July 9, an open idea creation workshop was hosted in Olten to which 14 community members (German, French and Italian Speaking Switzerland), 2 Staff members and 1 Board Member attended.
The objective of this workshop was to consult the Wikimedia community about ideas, programmes/projects that could be taken forward by WMCH and thus inserted into its strategic plan for 2017. It was the first time such a workshop was conducted for the whole of Switzerland involving all major communities. The attendees welcomed the possibility to reach out to participants from other parts of the country and were astonished about the richness of ideas and projects conducted and put in place. The workshop was organized following an “Open Space Technology” format so that all issues/ideas could be addressed and tabled. A summary of the various discussions can be found here.

Let's fill the gender gap project
The initiative was a great success and produced over 89 new articles in the french speaking wikipedia about women's biographies who all share a connection to Switzerland. We would like to thank the Users Nattes à chat, LaMèreVeille for their dedication to the project as well as the partners on the project the Bureau de l'égalité of the University of Geneva as well as the Emilie Gourd Foundation. Please check the project page for more information. Furthermore, following the completion of the project, they will be presenting gender gap related sessions at the french speaking Wikiconvention that will be taking place on the 19th-21st August that you may consult here and here.
Wikimania Esino Lario
editWikimania in Esino Lario was a great success! We would like to thank the team of volunteers who have invested so much effort in organizing this global gathering for the Wikimedia movement. Wikimedia CH was delighted to provide scholarships to 16 people from our community. The chapter's local communication actions allowed the event to receive an excellent media coverage that helped to spread awareness about the Wikimedia projects. For your information, you can consult a detailed analysis via this document. In case you weren't there, (or just want to relive it) here is a short video of the sights and sounds of Wikimania 2016 in Esino Lario in Italy and an article to read on the Wikimedia blog through this link.

Wiki on Rails event series
On June 1st, the longest railway tunnel in the world opened in Switzerland. This Gotthard Tunnel completes the billions worth AlpTransit, also known as New Railway Link through the Alps. This is the reason why many Swiss heritage institutions, we refer to as GLAMs (an acronym for Galleries, Libraries, Archives & Museums), in collaboration with the Wikimedian community have organized events on the theme of rail transport. The project "Wiki on Rails 2016" came to life thanks to the assessment that there are many railfans in the Wikimedia community. Ten well-known Swiss institutions are participating to the initiative: the Alfred Escher Foundation, the Diplomatic Documents of Switzerland (DDS), the Historical Museum Basel, the Swiss Railway Heritage Foundation (SBB Historic), the Swiss Federal Archives, the Swiss National Library, the Social Archives Zurich, the Swiss economic Archives (SWA), the Museum of transport Switzerland and the Central library Solothurn. Many events are scheduled, you may find the complete list on this page. Save the dates!
