Motivation and Contributions

Why are you running for the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda Governing Board? What unique contributions would you bring to the board? What do you hope to learn through this role?

1. I am applying to become a board member because I am passionate about the community after being part of it for about 5 years now.

2. I am committed to the community growth and empowerment and promoting free knowledge.

3. I have been part of I would say 80% of campaigns/ project run by the user group. Won several of them for the past 4 years. This has equipped me with several skills like editing skill, How to contribute to most of the Wikimedia projects and learning the dynamics of the user group.

4. Not only have I been be part of campaigns but I have led some of them like WikiGap 2024, Co-led Wiki Soccerthons 2024. This has equipped me with project management skills and coordination plus interpersonal skills.

5. When it comes to governance, I have not been to any governing board before but I have been part of several committees and I have headed several departments in my previous work places so I am here to learn as I explore possibilities of even leading at higher capacities.

6. I really want to have a feel of being in the kitchen where governing ideas are cooked and implemented, I am really excited about this opportunity, it being my first board to be part of.

Please describe your involvement with the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda and the wider movement, including: Contributions to Wikimedia projects, Participation in User Group activities..

With the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda, I have been and I am part of several of the User group activities including but not limited to strategy discussions, Campaigns and Projects; this involves leading and contributing to them.

Some of the Campaigns/Projects that I have been participated in;

  • WikiGap
  • Wiki For Human Rights
  • Wiki For Refugees
  • Wiki Loves Monuments
  • Wiki Soccerthone
  • GLAM-Wiki
    • BRIMS
    • Uganda Society
    • Uganda Libries Quest
    • Mother Tongue day etc
  • And several other campaigns

Strategic Priorities

From your perspective, what should the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda prioritize over the next 3–5 years? Why do you consider these priorities the most important?

In my opinion, the focus for the User Group should be;

  • Mentorship: This because we have trained and had a lot of people involved in the campaigns but you may nor be able to trace them after which is a big problem.
  • Community Development: We need to develop a self sustaining community as it is in our vision and mission.
  • Partnership: There is no sustainability without partnerships especially in our kind of setting up, so we need to on board several other organizations that will help us archive our plan.

Relevant Experience

Please describe any relevant skills and knowledge you have in areas such as, Governance, management, finance, leadership, or similar fields.

I have some experience in leadership; leading projects and departments.
