How I attended Wikimania 2022

I attended Wikimania 2022 virtually via Pheedloop & YouTube also in-person in Kampala, Uganda where different Wikimedians from all parts of Uganda came and we celebrated together.

What I spent the scholarship funds on

I spent my scholarship funds on data & transport, bought some equipment the extension cable to enable my virtual event powered without any disturbances and also spent some on food and drinks.

Understanding DEI in Wiki Loves Monuments and federated campaigns

I was able to get to know some of the challenges faced by the different local community groups in organizing such competitions locally, I loved the fact that local communities take the initiative to take photographs of their different cultural heritage sites, not waiting for foreigners to do so their behalf and also the fact that these competitions are not all about winning but rather being a patriot, one who loves their country and wishes that many people allover the world can discover a lot through these free photos contributed to Wikimedia commons.

Wikimedian of the Year 2022

This is one of the sessions I was really waiting for, I wanted to see how these kind people are greatly celebrating, these people who work tirelessly and restlessly to see that the world is provided with free knowledge. The expressions when they feel celebrated are really key and the fact that the foundation really appreciates their work is so inspiring, I feel so proud of all those who contributes to free knowledge.

The Russia-Ukrainian war impacts on the community

This touched my heart and what I can really offer are prayers to see that the world come to see and an end to this war. The war left many Ukrainians homeless, many orphans and also many lost their loved ones, this is something we can never wish to happen the world needs peace and stability for all of us.

How I connected with other people during Wikimania 2022? How I celebrated at Wikimania 2022

We connected virtually that I personally gotten to know a number of experienced Wikimedians, met new ones physically in Uganda whom we exchanged a lot of ideas towards contribution of free knowledge to Wikipedia and other wiki projects. I celebrated online and physically and I can affirm that Wikimania 2022 felt so different with inclusiveness.
