Wikimedia Cuteness Association/Vision for Wikimedia 2030
Montréal, Friday 11 August 2017
During the Wikimedia Conference in April 2016, the Wikimedia Cuteness Association investigated the current status of cuteness in the movement in the form of a logic model: an input-output-outcomes analysis to see how well cuteness has been spread, together with aspects present at that time and space.
In the analysis, multiple cuteness related outcomes in the short-term and long-term where concluded. Those were:
- New exe-cute-ive director found for the Wikimedia Foundation
- Founding of the Wikimedia Cuteness Advisory Committee
- Cuteness Space Policy
- Cuteness chief appointed in the Wikimedia Foundation, in the soft ware department
The board of the Wikimedia is pleased to learn that the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation takes cuteness serious and sees it as a vital part of the Wikimedia movement. First of all, all board meetings of the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation are behind closed doors, but since June 2016 there is always one member of the Wikimedia Cuteness Association present with the board meetings. Further, on 24 June 2016 Jimmy Wales announced that Katherine Maher had been appointed as the new exe-cute-ive director of the Wikimedia Foundation.
During the Wikimedia Conference in Spring 2017 the Friendly Space Policy was clearly promoted to provide a safe space for all participating in the conference, and led to the decision of the Wikimedia Cuteness Association that this policy is a good start, but is a first step, more is needed. Therefore the Wikimedia Cuteness Association is working on a Cuteness Space Policy (still under draft).
On 11 August 2017, the exe-cute-ive director of the Wikimedia Foundation, Katherine Maher, asked during her keynote speech at Wikimania 2017 in Montreal the Wikimedia Cuteness Association to endorse the 2017 movement strategy direction and to give input.
The Wikimedia Cuteness Association is happy to see that with the strategy direction much efforts have been undertaken to involve the large diversity in the Wikimedia movement. Asking the diverse community is a fundamental basis of the movement and is a vital part of Wikimedia's philosophy. On request of Katherine Maher, the Wikimedia Cuteness Advisory Committee has been founded to be able to provide thoroughgoing feedback on how the current draft of the 2017 movement strategy direction would effect the cuteness in the movement. On Saturday 12 August during Wikimania, between six and seven in the evening, the Wikimedia Cuteness Advisory Committee will have its first official meeting, supported by the many cuteness inspired Wikimedians present. On Sunday 13 August 2017, during the closing ceremony of Wikimania, the Wikimedia Cuteness Advisory Committee will come with its recommendations to improve the 2017 movement strategy direction.
Ahead of it, the Wikimedia Cuteness Association and the Wikimedia Cuteness Advisory Committee are happy to announce that we will endorse the 2017 movement strategy direction, and hope that the cuties will inspire to come to a more sustainable cuteness supported Wikimedia movement in 2030.
