Fundraising

The Wikimedia Foundation Fundraising team cultivates the resources that propel our movement. We engage millions of people from countries across the globe to support Wikipedia and its sister projects. The overwhelming majority of the Foundation's funding comes from millions of individual readers from all over the world giving an average of $11. The Foundation runs fundraising campaigns in 36 countries, 25 languages, and receives donations from over 200 countries. Read the details in our annual fundraising report.

These donations allow the Wikimedia Foundation to:

  • Support the technical infrastructure of Wikimedia projects, including providing critical services, designing and launching new products to improve user experience, and innovating in areas like machine learning and internet-based collaboration.
  • Strengthen performance and effectiveness of the Foundation across its functions.
  • Support the volunteer communities through grants, programs, training, and other activities.
  • Protect Wikimedia projects and communities against growing external threats such as disinformation and harmful government regulation, to ensure they can continue to thrive in the future.
