Project goal

To introduce Wikipedia Education Program and Wikiversity to Universities and other tertiary educational institutions in the country. We also want to achieve the basic idea behind the WEP which is: Professors and or Lecturers in Ghana assign their students to contribute to Wikipedia as class assignments.

To achieve this, we will

• Introduce the WEP to professors and educators in general in tertiary institutions in Ghana to use Wikipedia for class assignments.
• Recruit more online- and on-campus ambassadors to help train more students in the use of Wikipedia in education.
• Encourage the use of Wikiversity as a learning tool and resources hub.

Project Scope and Activities

• Contact Universities

- Contacts will be made to the targeted universities beforehand via emails, and probably by phone calls if suitable.

• Visit to Universities

- Meet professors and lecturers in various universities in Ghana, targeting mostly private universities.

- Story telling during the process of interacting with the institutions.

• Conference

- Preparation of the Wikipedia Education Program Conference in Accra.

- A radio ad create more awareness and invite many participants (radio ad on Citi FM)

• Report to Wikimedia Switzerland

- A report of the project 2 months after completion to the Wikimedia Switzerland

* Documentary broadcast of the project

- A broadcast on a National Televison Station (TV3 Ghana) and on Planning Wikimedia Ghana Youtube page and upload to Wikimedia Commons.

A total of $1,500 USD

Non-financial requirements

We would like to run an interview with a board member or an active member of the Wikimedia Switzerland International Group with the goal of adding it to the documentary.

We also request souvenirs of Wikimedia Switzerland (any number welcomed)

Strategy

This project fits within the Wikimedia Foundation's strategic plan in several ways:

• Increasing Reach & Participation (more people being able to access or contribute to Wikipedia and/or other projects websites): Our above outlined project is prepared with the view of helping to reach many Tertiary Institutions and Universities in Ghana and expound to them all the good news about using the wikipedia educational program.
• Increasing Quality (more useful content or higher quality existing content): Quality on the Wikis is very essential to providing quality knowledge. With this in mind, we will encourage new professors and tutors to use Wikipedia in teaching and assigning class works to students.
• Increasing Our Credibility (more trust in our projects): The partnerships and collaborations we plan on pursuing during these months will serve to raise the credibility and reach of the Wikimedia Foundation project websites and Wikimedia Switzerland.
• Financial Sustainability (how it will help your chapter achieve more in the long run): As stated above, this period for us is all about building brand and name recognition for our organization through implementation of effective and substantial projects that add to the quality and credibility of Wikimedia projects. Having financial assistance from the Wikimedia Switzerland to carry out these events, and particularly financial assistance for logistical support such as legally registering our chapter legally
