Wikimedia Ireland/Projects
These are projects that could start to happen before we have an official Wikimedia Ireland chapter and that at least one person is willing to put energy into.
Please only add new projects here that you are interested in helping make happen yourself.
- Educational: Adapting wikipedia (and wikibooks) content to be 'classroom ready' for the Irish classroom. Particularly "Project Maths" - the new Irish maths curriculum. Most likely by starting a wikibooks book. (Suggested by en:User:JamesCrook)
- Wikimedia Technology: Improving SVG image creation. For example get the new 'Dublin transport map' into OpenStreetmaps format. (Suggested by en:User:JamesCrook)
- High Quality OSI-based Maps: en:User:Nilfanion has created wonderful map images of Great Britain using Ordnance Survey mapping data direct from the Ordnance Survey database. It appears that the Ordnance Survey of Ireland releases similar data (see here). I cannot find anything similar on the Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland website but they may be convinced to release the data. Using this data, we could automatically produce very high quality and very precise maps of any region - at least in the ROI and possibly in NI - at any level of detail based on the most recent Ordnance Survey data. We might also be able to convince the OSI to dedicate resources to helping us produce maps using this data, as a community project. (Suggested by en:User:Rannpháití anaithnid)
- Draft of letter to Irish Government prepared in 2011 is available here MerrionStreet.ie (Irish Government News Service)
