Wikimedia Libya Community User Group/Wikisource Training Workshop

Wikimedia Libya Community Logo Wikimedia Libya Community is setting the Wikisource Training Workshop, a hands-on program designed to empower Libyan contributors, newcomers, and other interested participants from the Arabic-speaking community with practical skills to edit and enhance content on the Wikisource project. Specially designed to welcome individuals passionate about books and knowledge sharing, the workshop focuses on understanding the project's structure and mastering its operational mechanisms.

By targeting both experienced contributors and newcomers, this initiative seeks to

  1. Support the Arabic language, enrich the cultural and historical content on the project, and provide readers and researchers with greater access to valuable resources.
  2. Strengthen the capacity of the local community to contribute effectively to various Wikimedia projects.

The workshop is running from 7-30 December 2024.

Description

The Wikisource Training Workshop consists of a mixed learning approach to ensure maximum engagement and skill development:
  • Online Practical Sessions: Introduction to Wikisource basics, including editing, proofreading, and validation, using Tārīkh Ṭarābulus al-Gharb (English: History of Ottoman Tripolitania) by Ibn Ghalbūn as the starting text.
  • Collaborative Group Session: Collaborative application of knowledge by working on the same book, focusing on digitization, proofreading, and validation in small teams.
  • In-Person Session: A training where participants will work on a different book, providing a fresh opportunity to apply skills, share experiences, and engage in hands-on activities together.
