Wikimedia Nigeria Imo State Network shall be a group of volunteers with the main purpose of contributing to Wikimedia and her related projects in Imo state. This state network shall domicile in Owerri and run by volunteers with coordination from Wikimedia UG Nigeria (WUGN). This hub will seek to promote Wikimedia project through the execution of projects and training as a way of exposing the volunteers to the movement.

The success of this project will primarily be to raise active Wikimedians to constitute Wikimedia Nigeria Imo State Network and promote our local languages on Wikipedia. It will integrate Wikimedia into institutions of learning, especially tertiary institutions, across Imo State and south east region. This planned endeavour will create visibility for wikimedia projects through Partnerships with, and outreach activities to organizations, agencies and others alike across the said region.

We aim to achieve this by hosting several projects and events such as: edit-a-thons, GLAMs, Wikipedia Education programs and related projects, which seek to promote Wikimedia projects in Imo State and other south eastern states.

Objectives

  • To teach volunteers how to contribute to Wikimedia projects
  • To organize in-person gatherings of Wikimedians in Imo State.

  • Promote editing of Nigeria-related content on Wikimedia projects
  • Open Street Maps Editing
  • Wikimedia In Residence (WIR)
