Association's actions for the past weeks
Wikimédia France took part in the "Assises de l’éducation populaire 2.0" (conferences on 2.0 popular education) at the regional pedagogic resource center (Centre régional de documentation pédagogique, CRDP) of Poitiers (western France).
The association came and spoke in TedxRepubliqueSquare « Le Lâcher prise au pouvoir ».
Thanks to the micro-funding of the book "Commission micro-financement/Demande/Saint-Sernin|Saint-Sernin de Toulouse : de Saturnin au chef-d'œuvre de l'art roman", two members started describing precisely a group of pictures of the basilica Saint-Sernin in Toulouse. For now about twenty pictures have been described on Commons, most of them being parts (capitals, medallions, tympanum etc.) of the Miègeville door.

Working groups' actions
Education
In partnership with two resources centers — the CLEMI (Centre de liaison de l’enseignement et des médias d’information) of Créteil (southern suburbs of Paris) and the CRDP (Centre régional de documentation pédagogique) Midi-Pyrénées (southern France) — members trained school librarians and teachers on the theme "Wikipedia in class".
Research and university
In April, the partnership with the university Lille Nord de France went on with a second training session for doctoral students: two workshops were organized.
At the beginning of this month a training session for doctorants students from Nanterre university (Parisian university) also started.
At the URFIST of Bordeaux librarians and doctoral students received training.

PhotosNormandie
"PhotosNormandie" is an unofficial group of World War II enthusiasts and especially the D-Day and the Battle of Normandy (1944). They work on describing a lot of historical photographs about these moments, with a lot of details and a real expertise. They can, for example, find the military unit of a man, and sometimes his name.
This group has worked for 5 years and is active on Flickr. They describe mostly photographs from NARA and have now more than 3,000 pictures with very interesting captions. We met the leader of the group, Patrick Peccatte, and after a very interesting discussion, the group decided to change their license and offer their descriptions under a CC-BY-SA license. We can now upload all the photographs on Wikimedia Commons (or matching with the photographs from NARA already present) and invite people to translate the captions in several languages (a few are in English but the most part is in French). The group is interested in continuing his work maybe directly on Wikimedia Commons, and if possible with the help of NARA, because of the good relationships between NARA and the wikimedians.

Musée des Augustins (Toulouse)
After a workshop in February by Carol Ann, some students in tourism have work in April about the article of the Musée des Augustins, a fine arts museum in Toulouse. About ten students worked with the librarians of the museum to improve the quality of the article. The article grew 40,000 octets and presents now the collections and a short presentation of the main objects of the museum. We're experimenting this kind of collaboration (museum + students at work) with this institution and it is a very learning experience.
Meeting with an association of curators
On April 19 and 20, Adrienne was invited in Aix-en-Provence to work with an association of museum curators from the South of France about the opening of content and cultural data. During two days, the challenge was to work on four scenarios with four institutions and to help them work with a contents-opening and sharing perspective. 70 people were present and worked together during these two days. We made a lot of very nice contacts and have had many opportunities to achieve partnerships, especially with mobile technology projects.
OpenGlam: legal workshop about Public Domain and Cultural data and content
On April 27, Wikimedia France and the Open Knowledge Foundation organized a workshop in the Centre Pompidou to work about Public Domain and cultural content. The aim is to work with all the people interested in opening more and more the institutions and the Ministry, in the same spirit as for open-data.
We invited some lawyers, people from institutions we worked with, and people from the ministry of Culture. Other people interested were welcome too. We were more than 30 people to work for four hours on specifically French problems: the special status of cultural data and content, which excludes them from opendata initiatives, and other specific laws and cultural problems.
This workshop was a real success. We have to work towards clarifying the result, and the group will meet again at the end of May to write a set of recommendations for the future Ministry of Culture, to sustain and improve free sharing of cultural content.
