What lessons were learned that may help others succeed in similar projects, or that may change the way you are doing this project?

[Not much has changed since the previous report, and we feel that those answers stil accurately reflect our positions, so we are repeating this section]

• We experienced a bottleneck when it comes to office and employee utilization: too many programmatic and administration activities and great interest for meetings by potential partners have overwhelmed our employee. Having another employee would benefit the office and WMRS itself.
• As learned from several of our projects, it's important to make a lot of effort towards bringing new volunteers to the organization and keeping them interested in the projects.
• From time to time, we experienced project management bottleneck -- it's important to keep as many people acquainted with the basic facts and information about ongoing projects.
• It's beneficial to invest more in technical equipment for the office from the start, because more expensive the equipment, more durable it is; cheaper equipment tends to break faster, so in the long run, it's better to spend more in the beginning.

What went well, or is going well?

Office utilization continues to grow. In Q3 it saw comparatively more usage than in Q1, even though summer is generally a slow season. Execution dynamics of projects that fell behind in the previous quarter picked up and they are now mostly on schedule.

What did not go well, or is not going well?

As in the previous period, collecting donations from sources other than annual grant continues to be problematic. Some of the projects are stil lagging behind their intended shedules.

Our position didn’t change since the last report period: we are trying to find alternative ways to raise more funds in given circumstances, and we are keeping a close watch on projects that are not on schedule.

Activity report for May - July 2013 Secretariat: Office and the first employee The third quarter included a period of vacations and school breaks in Serbia, which resulted in a decrease in the number of meetings and workshops compared to the second quarter. The Secretary General attended 73 meetings, workshops, gatherings and other thematic events, which is a slight increase in comparison to the first quarter. The Secretary General (employee) has actively participated in several projects. In this period, he started working on the annual plan for 2014, but also on the analysis of the state of Wikimedia Serbia for the current period. Board The board has held two regular meetings, during which board members have discussed project activity reports and made operative decisions. Reports of these meetings have been sent to the Wikimedia Serbia community, which was in this way informed about the board’s work. Educational projects In this period, all the seminal papers written by high school and faculty students on Wikipedia have been completed and checked. High school pupils created over 100 articles, whereas faculty students created over 400 Wikipedia articles. Beside that, we have started collaborating with two more high schools, where we plan on holding the project in the next school year. A seminar for school employees was held in one primary school. A lecture presenting the work with high school students based on the experiences of the project participants was held at the symposium for mathematics and informatics teachers. GLAM Public museum in Kruševac: We have held several meetins with the director of the public museum in Kruševac, where we presented the GLAM projects and possibilities of two-way cooperation between the museum and Wikimedia Serbia. The museum expressed their interest and wish to join the project after the vacation season ends. Center of Fine Arts and Education Šumatovačka: We have held coordination meetings with the representatives of the center regarding the continuation of our cooperation and projects. Besides these, we have held several other meetings with museums in order to present to them the possibilities of collaborative work. Creative Commons As a way to reestablish our Creative Commons website, we have created author contracts for the site’s judicial and technical infrastructure. The first two phases of the projects have been completed, and they include setting up and launching the website and localization of texts. Additionally, a text named “Creative Commons - forms and norms of the digital age” has been publised at the activist website O-ruk.com. WLM 2013 Wishing to follow in the footsteps of the last year’s successfully organized Wiki Loves Monuments competition in Serbia, we have worked on preparing the WLM 2013 in this quarter. Those preparations included choosing the organizer, updating the lists of monuments and their coordinates, working on promoting the project, selecting jury members, updating the website etc. Work with marginalized groups Thanks to our good cooperation with the cultural center Nea Pangea, at the end of June we started with the project of working with the marginalized groups. The project titled “How to use Wikipedia” has a goal of introducing people of these groups to Wikipedia. During June, we held two lectures, where participants had an opportunity (some of them for the first time) to get acquainted with the basic principles of how Wikipedia works, ways how they can search articles and some of the ways how to use information from Wikipedia. Media During the third quarter, the number of blog posts has increased, which made the community around WMRS informed about global Wikimedia goings-on in the Serbian language. Domestic media have carried information about Wikimedia Serbia projects. Media appearances Radio S, with a national coverage, has informed its listeners about the project 1001 Arabic words. For that purpose, an interview was made with the participants of the project. Also, newspaper Blic made a reportage about this project. The media in Serbia was interested in the editathon project of 99 years since the beginning of World War I, so newspapers Politika and Večernje novosti made interviews with us. Blog In the period between May 1 and July 31, seven articles were published on the Wikimedia Serbia blog. Five of those are translations from the Wikimedia Foundation blog and two are texts about Wikimedia Serbia activities. 1001 арапска реч Ангажовање локалне заједнице на у школском пројекту на Викимедијиној мултимедијалној остави Позив за подношење пројеката Слика дана Викимедијине оставе: Стокхолмски кеј Партнерство са Ерселом доноси Википедију 0 у Индију Путовање једне новчанице од 1000 јена: прича са Викиманије Слушај Википедију Wikimedia Serbia Library In the period between May and July, Wikimedia Serbia Library has grown by 37 books and valuable historical magazines, such as the original edition of the magazine Karadžić, printed in 1901. Among collected books, there are 17 encyclopedic volumes, which can be used for sourcing articles. Wikipedian meetups In the Wikimedia Serbia office, there were three Wikipedian meetups. The meetups attracted some new Wikipedians, who didn’t have the opportunity to meet other Wikipedians before. Two editathons have been organized. The first wasn’t themed, while the other one was an editathon to mark the 99th anniversary of the beginning of World War I. A total of 24 new articles have been created. Other A member of Wikimedia Serbia and a famous Serbian quiz player, Aco Brajković, published his first book, “Quizopedia”. It’s a book which contains 2000 questions and answers and is completely sourced by Wikipedia contents and illustrated by images from Wikimedia Commons. The presentation of this book was held in Wikimedia Serbia office, which was a great opportunity for quiz lovers to get acquainted with Wikimedia Serbia and its projects. In July, all Wikimedia Serbia websites have been under several hacker attacks, which resulted in short outages of the websites. However, due to WMRS members’ quick actions, the problem was solved. One of the organizations that represent LGBT rights in Serbia has filed a complaint against Wikimedia Serbia to the Trustee for the protection of equality because the article about magazine called “Optimist” has been deleted from Wikipedia by a standard VfD process, wherein Wikipedia community decided that the magazine isn’t relevant enough for Wikipedia. Wikimedia Serbia has, with advice from WMF, responded to the complaint, with an in-depth explanation that it is not responsible for Wikipedia content and community decisions. We have also explained the community voting processes on WIkipedia.

Извештај о активностима за период мај - јул 2013. Секретаријат: Канцеларија и први запослени Трећи квартал захватио је период годишњих одмора и распуста у Србији, што је резултирало смањењем броја састанака и радионица у односу на други квартал. Генерални секретар учествовао је у 73 састанка, радионица, окупљања и осталих тематских дешавања, што је благи пораст у поређењу са првим кварталом. Генерални секретар (први запослени) активно је учествовао у реализацији неколико пројеката. У овом периоду, он је приступио изради плана рада за 2014. годину, али и анализи постојећег стања у Викимедији Србији за текући период. Управни одбор Управни одбор одржао је два редовна састанка на којима је разматрао пристигле извештаје о раду на пројектима и доносио оперативне одлуке. Записници са састанака прослеђени су заједници која је на овај начин била у прилици да се информише о раду Управног одбора. Едукативни пројекти У овом периоду завршени су и прегледани семинарски радови у свим средњим школама и на факулетима који су радили на овом пројекту. Ученици средњих школа су написали преко 100 чланака, а студенти преко 400 чланака на Википедији. Осим тога, успостављена је сарадња са још две средње школе у којима су најављени пројекти за следећу школску годину. У једној основној школи одржан је семинар за запослене. Одржано је предавање на симпозијуму за наставнике математике и информатике на коме је представљен рад са ученицима средњих школа на основу искуства учесника пројекта. ГЛАМ Народни музеј Крушевац: Са директором Народног музеја у Крушевцу одржано је неколико састанака на којима су представљени ГЛАМ пројекти и могућност двосмерне сарадње Музеја и Викимедије Србије. Музеј је изразио заинтересованост и жељу да се прикључи пројекту по завршетку годишњих одмора. Центар за ликовно образовање Шуматовачка: Са представницима центра одржани су координациони састанци око наставка сарадње и реализације пројеката. Поред ових, одржано је и неколико других састанака са музејима како би им се представила могућност заједничког рада. Кријејтив комонс За потребе Creative Commons сајта, склопљени су ауторски уговори за правну и техничку инфраструктуру истог. Завршене су прве две фазе пројекта, које подразумевају постављање и лансирање сајта и локализацију текстова. Такође је објављен текст “Creative Commons - форме и норме дигиталног доба” на активистичком сајту O-ruk.com. ВЛМ 2013 Са жељом да се прошлогодишње успешно реализовано ВЛМ такмичење у Србији настави, у току овог квартала радило се на припреми ВЛМ 2013. Припреме су подразумевале избор организатора, сређивање спискова споменика и њихових координата, рад на промоцији пројекта, одабир чланова жирија, ажурирање веб сајта и остало. Рад са маргилизованим групама Захваљујући доброј сарадњи са културним центром Неа Пангеа, крајем јуна, почела је реализација пројекта рада са маргинализованим групама. Пројекат под називом “Како да користим Википедију” има за циљ приближавање Википедије припадницима ове групе. У току јуна одржана су два предавања, где су присутни имали прилику (неки од њих по први пут) да се упознају са основим начелима функционисања Википедије, начином на који могу да претраже чланке и са неким од начина како треба користити информације са Википедије. Медији Током трећег квартала повећан је број блог постова, чиме је заједници окупљеној око ВМРС омогућено да се информишу на српском језику о глобалним дешавањима у Викимедији. Домаћи медији су преносили информације о пројектима Викимедије Србије. Појављивање у медијима Радио С, радио са националном фреквенцијом, извештавао је своје слушаоце о пројекту 1001 арапска реч. Том приликом урађен је интервју са учесницима пројекта. Репортажу о овом пројекту пренео је и дневник Блиц. Медијима у Србији је било занимљиво и обележавање 99 година од почетка Првог светског рата уређивачким маратоном, о чему су известили Политика и Вечерње новости. Блог У периоду од 1. маја до 31. јула, на блогу Викимедије објављено је седам чланака. Реч је о пет превода са блога Задужбине Викимедије и два текста о активностима унутар Викимедије Србије. 1001 арапска реч Ангажовање локалне заједнице на у школском пројекту на Викимедијиној мултимедијалној остави Позив за подношење пројеката Слика дана Викимедијине оставе: Стокхолмски кеј Партнерство са Ерселом доноси Википедију 0 у Индију Путовање једне новчанице од 1000 јена: прича са Викиманије Слушај Википедију Библиотека Викимедије Србије У периоду мај-јул, Библиотека Викимедије Србије увећала се за 37 књига и вредних историјских часописа, као што је оригинално издање часописа Караџић, штампано 1901. године. Међу прикупљеним књигама налази се чак седамнаест енциклопедија, које могу послужити за референцирање чланака. Окупљање Вики(м)педијанаца У просторијама Викимедије Србије организована су три окупљања Википедијанаца. Састанци су привукли и неке нове Википедијанце, који до сада нису имали прилике да се упознају уживо. Организована су два уређивачка маратона. Један је био слободне тематике, а тема другог маратона је 99. годишњица од почетка Првог светског рата. Написано је укупно 24 нова чланка. Остало Члан Викимедије Србије и познати српски квизоман, Ацо Брајковић, издао је своју прву књигу “Квизопедија”. Реч је о књизи која садржи 2000 питања и одговора и у потпуности је референцирана садржајем са Википедије и илустрована сликама са Викимедијине Оставе. Представљање ове књиге одржано је у просторијама Викимедије Србије, што је била одлична прилика да се љубитељи квизова упознају са Викимедијом Србије и њеним пројектима. У јулу је забележено више хакерских напада на све сајтове Викимедије Србије, што је имало за последицу краткотрајну недоступност истих. Међутим, брзом реакцијом проблем је решен. Једна од организација које заступају ЛГБТ права у Србији поднела је притужбу против Викимедије Србије Поверенику за заштиту равноправности због брисања чланка о часопису “Оптимист” на Википедији на српском језику, а за који је заједница стандардним процесом закључила да није довољно релевантан. Викимедија Србије је, уз консултације са ВМФ, одговорила на притужбу, уз детаљно образложење да она није надлежна за садржај Википедије и одлуке заједнице. Такође смо их упутили у процесе одлучивања на Википедији.
