This is the activity report for Wikimedians for Sustainable Development 2024.

This is our fifth year as a user group.

Internal User group meetings

In total, 13 members participated in these meetings, namely:

The major outcomes from the meetings were:

• An initial mapping for the upcoming Affiliate Health Criteria
• Adopting an Annual plan for 2025
• Drafting a strategy for the user group
• Deciding how to vote on the Movement Charter

All calls were held on Jitsi, using Etherpad to take notes. In both places, the universal code of conduct was announced to apply to the meeting. No complaints have been received.

Activities

• Participated at the Wikimedia Summit (report)
  • Our representative at the summit got interviewed by the summit organizers for Wikipediapodden
• We Mapped all Wikimania sessions towards the SDGs
• Established a model for adding emissions data to Wikidata
• Participated in WikiAfrica Hour about sustainability
• Notably, the Wikidata property relates to sustainable development goal, target or indicator (P12933) was created

Partnerships

During 2024, no formal partnerships were entered by the user group.

As previous, we collaborated with the Sustainability initiative and especially directed curious Wikimedians to the right place as the scope of each are easily mistaken.

While not a formal partnership, we guided the non-profit Klimatkollen in their upload of carbon emission data to Wikidata. [1] After the first upload, we gave input on new grant submissions for this and discussed how historical data could be utilized with the new Charts extenstion.

• Our Facebook page Wikimedians for Sustainable Development had 534 likes (+299) at 2024-12-31.
• In our Facebook group Wikimedians for Sustainable Development Collaboration Group at 2024-12-31 there were 259 members (+6).

Twitter

• Our Twitter account WikiSusDev was deactivated on 9 October.

Training courses that membership (especially leadership) underwent

Ainali:

• Sustainable Knowledge Dissemination through OER and Open Science, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, 2 ECTS.
• Climate Leadership in Politics and Public Administration, Uppsala University, 3 ECTS.
