Project Description

The Write for African Women Project, initiated by Wikimedia Arusha, aims to create and enhance content on African women and their contributions to various fields. The edit-a-thon started from 30th April 2024 to 10th May 2024.https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikimedians_of_Arusha_User_Group/FESPACO_AFROCREATIVES_EDITATHON

Goals

1. Increase the visibility and representation of African women on Wikimedia platforms.
2. Highlight the achievements and contributions of African women in diverse fields.

Participants

Over 50 community members attended the edit-a-thon, representing a diverse range of interests and expertise.

Project Outcomes

• Creation of articles and content showcasing the achievements and contributions of African women.
• Increased awareness and recognition of African women's accomplishments on Wikimedia platforms.

Project Learnings

• Focusing on underrepresented topics, such as African women, is essential for promoting diversity and inclusivity on Wikimedia platforms.
• Collaborative projects can mobilise community efforts to create and enhance content on specific themes or topics.
• Each of these initiatives organised by Wikimedia Arusha contributes to the organisation's mission of fostering a vibrant and sustainable community of contributors who create and share high-quality knowledge on Wikimedia projects, with a focus on underrepresented content. Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, Wikimedia Arusha continues to make significant contributions to the Wikimedia movement.
