Projects and Activities

• We publish a monthly Newsletterat the end of each month(First News Letter Team Leader: Syunsyunminmin, The Leader in 2024:Chqaz).
• We met online once every two months in 2023. Starting in May 2024, we increased the frequency of our meetings. Currently, we meet online on the first Sunday of each month.
• We also encourage post articles to Diff as reports of our activities.YShibata had tlansrated japanese articles into English.

Land scape survey on Japanease Wikipedia Editors

August-November

With the help of a research company, we conducted a large-scale landscape survey of Japanese Wikipedia editors and contributors. We began preparations in August,2023. The survey mainly asked about motivations and compliments about ja-Wikipedia. 330 people responded. The results were summarized in two articles in Diff.

2024

From December 2023 to April 2024, a few member,YShibata and Kizhiya helped intermittently with localizing the Wikimedia Foundation's fundraising campaign.

Participated in the ESEAP Conference 2024

May

10-12 May 2024: A member VZP10224 participated in the ESEAP Conference 2024 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. He gave a seminar on surveys. For more information, please read Diff.

Joining Open Source Conferences Nagoya and giving lecture about Wikidata

We decided the following at our monthly online meeting. In the Japanese version, or in Japan, only Wikipedia is well-known. But we have learned from international Wikimedians that editing Wikipedia isn't the only way to contribute: many people contribute to various Wikimedia projects in other languages. We decided to promote Wikimedia projects other than Wikipedia so that various people can contribute in various ways. We will promote Wikidata, especially to engineers. And we will create an environment where other projects can proceed easily.

25th May, We participated in the Open Source Conference Nagoya. Exhibited as a user group, and our Project Leader VZP10224 gave a seminar on Wikidata.

Interviews of Female participants

June

A notable point from last year's survey was the very low number of female participants. So Kizhiya interviewed four female participants and compiled the results and reported them to Diff.

Keeping Communities Safe Through The UCoC(The poster Created by Trust and Safety team)

July

Exhibited at the Open Source Conference Kyoto. Wadakuramon participated as an advisor. Six other members of the user group also perticipated. This event would include a minor, and many members needed lodging. Therefore, we had carefully planned safety measures. The Trust and safety Team made the poster of UCoC, so we localized and copied them. On the day,VZP10224 gave a presentation titled “First Steps to Edit Wikidata” and introduced the overview of editing Wikidata by useing Wikidata Graph Builder. Nine people attended the session, and UCoC pamphlets were distributed to these people.

August

Two members, VZP10224 and Ai24, participated in Wikimania Katowice. Unfortunately, they were not allowed to give presentations.

Joining Open Source Conference Hiroshima,Prepareing other OSCs and Wikipedia Asian Month 2024

September

Preparing for participation in Wikipedia Asian Month 2024. We plan to participate in Open Source Conference(OSC) Hiroshima on 29th September, in OSC Tokyo 26th October and in Kansai Open Forum2024 8th/9th November at Osaka.
