This is the annual report of Wikimedians of Slovensko User Group (WMSK) for the year 2023.

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting took place on Saturday 20 January 2023 in a hybrid form. Six out of six current members took part so the quorum was reached. The Annual General Meeting approved members of the Audit Committee (Patrik Kunec and Jaroslava Dollerová) and an appendix to the by-laws. schválilo dodatok k stanovám. Organizational

WMSK members were able to meet in person after a long time during the weekend of 17 to 19 November in Býkovice, Moravia. Five members of WMSK were present (and one more took part online on Saturday). The meeting had the character of a strategic meeting: our capacities of taking part in the global movement, outcomes of our work and future activities were discussed. The meeting was also a team-building. We thank the Wikimedia Foundation for its financial support. In addition to the Býkovice meeting, we continue to meet online every two weeks. We continued drawing the Start Up Grant to compensate for some of the administrative and organizational work. We also continued to collect support through the 2% of income tax plan. We wish to thank our donors.

Activities of the User Group

The User Group organized the following activities during the year 2023:

Seniors Create Wikipedia

During the months of February through April, the User Group organized the project Seniori tvoria Wikipédiu (Seniors Create Wikipedia) in collaboration with Verejná knižnica Mikuláša Kováča v Banskej Bystrici (Mikuláš Kováč Public Library in Banská Bystrica). The project's six sessions were used to show and workshop work on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons to seniors and to advise them on further editing. We plan to continue to work with seniors in a modified way during 2024, most likely in Bratislava.

CEE Spring 2023

In 2023, WMSK organized the seventh Slovak round of the international CEE Spring 2023. Its goal is to increase the quality and number of articles about Central and Eastern Europe on Wikipedia. 7 editors took part between 21 March and 31 May. 124 of their articles were accepted according to the rules. In terms of the number of articles, Slovak Wikipedia placed 21st out of 27 projects. This year, the User Group supported the competition only in technical ways and there were no prizes for winners.

Wiki Loves Earth

The Wiki miluje Zem (Wiki Loves Earth)| competition took place for the first time in Slovakia. Wikimedia Commons received 450 photographs of protected areas and trees from 18 participants. Ten selected best photographs by 7 photographers were sent to the international round and received a book purchase coupon as a prize. We wish to thank the Wikimedia Foundation for its support of this project.

Wikipedia Asian Month

The sixth Ázijský mesiac Wikipédie (Wikipedia Asian Month) took place during November and December 2023 on Slovak Wikipedia. This international competition focuses on improving and extending content about Asia on Wikipedia. Wikimedians of Slovakia worked again with our partner, Wikimedia Taiwan. We continued our cooperation from the previous year by editing together and getting to know each other in an online meeting. Wikipedia Asian Month took place between 15 November and 31 December. 9 editors with 109 articles took part. More articles were started but their authors did not submit them for the competition through Fountain.

International Cooperation

The chairperson, Matej Grochal, took part in the 2023 General Assembly of Wikimedia Europe (WMSK is a member organization) between 9 to 10 June 2023 in Prague. He also participated in the 2023 Hungarian WikiCamp in Debrecen as invited by Wikimédia Magyarország. WMSK representatives Matej Grochal and Patrik Kunec participated in the 2023 CEE Meeting (in person in Tbilisi). They co-presented a presentation „Even smaller groups can do stuff“.

For the year 2024, we are planning to take part in the last Wikimedia Summit. The chairperson, Matej Grochal, participated in several preparatory activities for the Summit in 2023. We also cooperated with the CEE Hub, we thank them for supporting our promotional materials, for advice and other help. We have been staying in touch with long-term partners (Wikimedia Česká republika/Wikimedia Czech Republic, Wikimedia Österreich/Wikimedia Austria, Wikimédia Magyarország/Wikimedia Hungary).
