Notes from meeting
edit- After the approval of the Wikidata training conference in Istanbul, an online meeting was held with users from Turkic languages. Users and organizers initially discussed the preparation process of an agenda and schedule. In addition, ideas were exchanged for logo design options for the conference.
- The idea was offered on the development of joint projects and methods of cooperation in the future in a quadruple format, involving Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.
- It has been decided that the Turkic Wikimarathon which has been organized regularly for two years, will not be held on the Turkish Wikipedia this year due to both the conference preparations and the busy agenda. On the other hand, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, and Tatar Wikipedia declared that it will organize the Wikimaraton event locally. Each community (UG) will itself submit a grant request to fund prizes for the winners. Turkic UG will help all UGs that is the first time to apply for a grant, in addition, Turkic UG can provide various inexpensive prizes (for example, postcards) to marathon participants.
- This year, the Wikimedia Summit will take place in person. If the organizers confirm, Turkey will be represented by Elmacenderesi, Azerbaijan Eldarado. Representatives of Kazakh UG didn't have time to register, and other Turkic UGs, most of which operate on the territory of Russia, due to the current situation, didn't dare to register a representative for the Berlin Summit.
- During local updates, the WMTR representatives said that they are actively working and continuing to develop a network of partnerships locally. At the same time, a representative of the Tatar community shared that they had problems locally when the former sponsors who provided them with financial assistance now refuse to do so, which is due to the problems of Wikipedia in Russia. The Kazakh community cooperates with the rest of the communities in Central Asia, who meet online once every two months and have discussions. There is a problem with gatherings in Azerbaijan, which is a side effect of the pandemic.
- So far, it isn't known whether or not an in-person meeting of the CEE will take place this year. it's known that the Wikimedia Foundation has not allocated funding for the conference and the organizing team is working with the WMF grant team on this issue.
- Wikimania this year will take place in August, online. The Turkic UG will apply for a grant and organize a hybrid meeting. In-person part this year it was decided that it will be held in Baku, and all other communities will take part online.
- Regarding the CEE meeting in Macedonia, Mohsen Salek will represent WM Turkic UG there.
