Contests
editTurkic Marathon 2020
editTurkic Marathon is an annual Wikipedia editing contest, which is carried out on the initiative and organization of Wikimedia Turkic UG with the support and with active cooperation with local Turkic Wikimedia affiliations. During the contest, contestants must create articles in their language edition of Wikipedia and add them to a special page (Fountain). The winners are determined by the jury for each Wikipedia. The goals of the marathon are:
- Popularization of Turkic culture and language.
- Recruit new editors.
- Improve Wikipedia content.
- Create new articles about Turkic topics.
The marathon was held for the first time in 2020, and during which more than 1336 new articles were created and 185 articles were improved, only in the Turkic Wikipedia's. 89 users took part in marathon, of which 20 were new users.
In addition to the Turkic communities and Wikipedias, other non-Turkic Wikipedias also took part in the marathon. This are:
- Russian Wikipedia: 539 new articles were created, 32 editors took part.
- Ukrainian Wikipedia: 419 new articles were created, 18 editors took part.
- Romanian Wikipedia: 20 new articles were created, 3 editors took part.
The marathon was the first successful project of the Turkic UG.
Wiki Loves Caucasus 2020
editWiki Loves Caucasus 2020 is the regional contest organized by Caucasian Wikimedians. The main goal of the competition is to create as many articles about the Caucasus in the languages of the Caucasus as possible.
The contest will consist of two levels: 1) National level - the language sections of Wikipedia in the languages of the Caucasus will hold their own local contest, where they will write articles about the Caucasus, except for themselves; 2) International level - everyone can write about the Caucasus in any language and in Wikipedias.
In 2020, two Turkic communities took part in the contest - Azerbaijani and Turkish. Turkic UG has helped and facilitated the contest on the Turkish Wikipedia, together with Wikimedia UG Georgia. In total, 325 new articles were created in Turkish Wikipedia during the contest and 18 articles were improved, 19 users took part in the contest. In Azerbaijani Wikipedia by 8 participants created 294 new articles.
Meetings
editIn 2020, Turkic UG held 5 meetings, all were online. During the meetings, important issues related to the future plans of the UG were discussed, and other problematic issues were also discussed. All meetings with related minutes are provided here.
Grow up
editTurkic UG helps and encourages the growth of the Turkic community. This year two new User Group appeared in the Turkic family, this Uzbek UG and Kazakh UG. The Turkic UG will continue its activities to encourage and assist in the development and creation of new Wikimedia affiliations.
